How does the shark protect itself?

A shark is at the top of their food chain and has very powerful jaws with many rows of teeth to chomp every animal.

Where does the shark live?

Sharks can be found in oceans, coral lagoons, mangrove swamps, rivers and shallow seas. Some species of shark can be found in freshwater too, like the bullshark.

How does the shark adapt to its environment?

• Sharks have fins and a slick body that helps them swim.

• Sharks have a lot of sharp teeth.

How many species of sharks are there?

Currently there are approximately 400 described species of sharks, however new species are being discovered all the time.

How is the shark born?

One mother shark can give birth to up to 6 pups at a time. The babies are carried inside and are born alive just like humans. After they are born, the babies are independent feeders.

Interesting Fact Page

The Grey Reef Shark is a very interesting animal. It can live a really long time in the beautiful coral reefs. This shark is normally not a threat to humans, but it is close to being on the endangered species list because of humans.

Shark fishers kill Grey Reef Sharks to sell their fins for food!
