Phonemic Awareness: Understanding that speech is made up of a series of individual sounds.
Syllable Clap
Reading-
Syllable recognition is the foundation of Phonemic Awareness. Having your child count the syllables in a word by clapping allows them to separate the words into smaller sections. Give them a hand!

Rhyme Time
Phonics: The connection between sounds and letter symbols. This connection allows the reader to relate how the sound/symbol combination creates words.
Reading-
Sorting words that rhyme helps your child to see how sounds and letters combine to make words. You will be surprised at the sentences they can come up with!

Fluency: The ability to read with speed, accuracy, and expression.

Magazine Scavenger Hunt
Vocabulary: Knowing what a word is and its definition.
