EDITO
The Plant-based Chemistry Association is pleased to wel-come you to Plant Based Summit in Paris. This second edition, organised with our partner Infopro Digital, brings together over 1000 stakeholders from Europe and beyond, to share a common interest and driver: Advancing theBiobased Economy.Since 2008, the French players of this new value chain have come together at the Plant-based Chemistry As-sociation to work together towards bringing evermore new technologies, biobased chemicals and materials for chemical and downstream industries and consumer pro-ducts to the market.
Pooling skills, know-how and purposefulness is at the heart of the Association’s Vision and achievements. These will underpin the summit’s spirit. With the biobased economy reaching mainstream mar-kets, three essential components of the plant-basedchemistry value chain will be discussed:● The needs of major applications markets such as
adhesives, home care or packaging and the innovativesolutions brought by plant-based chemistry, through the exhibition and dedicated streams for “Industrial and consumer products” and ‘Plastics and materials’.
● The development and reinforcement of the plant-based chemistry value chain, emergence of new trends andindustrial achievements in the ‘New and emerging technologies’ stream as well as with visits of major biorefi neries and biobased industrial sites.
● The ‘Global context’ shaping the emergence of the biobased economy such as the challenge of fi nancinginnovation in time of crisis and the societal issuestowards sustainability and resources management.
Each stakeholder in the biobased economy will be able to share, fi nd the best solutions to fi t its own specifi c place and development stage, enabling it to make the decisive leap forward.
As a fi nal word, I would like to express my gratitude to our partner, and our sponsors, in particular UIC and IAR cluster, for their active contribution to the success of this Summit.
I wish you all a successful event!Christophe Rupp-Dahlem

ARKEMA Cerdato R&D center in Serquigny (Eure)Cerdato is one of the 10 research and development cen-ters of Arkema in the world. It is dedicated to develop-ment and innovation in the fi eld of engineering polymers.Listening to markets like sport, photovoltaic, eyewear, cosmetic, automotive, off-shore oil production or packa-ging, the Cerdato tailors innovative performance mate-rials more resilient, durable and light, often for metal or glass replacement.A large share of its activity is also allocated to technical support for Arkema’s customers and to the improvement of polymers and monomers manufacturing processes.
This biorefi nery brings together Sofi proteol’s subsidia-ries specialised in oilseed processing, from rapeseed to end-users industrial products: Saipol is crushing rapeseed to produce vegetable oil and meal, Diester Industrie is producing biodiesel and glycerin, Novance and Oleon are transforming oils, fats and glycerin into various oleochemical products. The site has developed bio-lubricants, green polyols, coatings and other innovative products based on re-newable raw materials.Novance and Oleon offer a wide range of renewable products which can be used as alternatives to conven-tional petroleum-based products.
Roquette Lestrem is the largest biorefi nery in Europe. This plant is the main and historical site of the group. This factory converts 7 000 tons of grains each day and markets more than 700 products. Roquette Lestrem site brings together many skills from the production areas to the main Research & Development center and also the head offi ce where the central functions are performed: human resources, accounts, sales, management of IT systems… From the pilot project to the industrial appli-cation, the major part of the Roquette product ranges is imagined, designed and developed on this site.
This Biorefi nery represents an outstanding example of integrated biorefi nery, which has been developed over a long period of time, starting with the creation of a su-gar beet refi nery in the early 50’s.Today, two realities co-exist and interact on a single site: an industrial complex, which can be defi ned as an industrial ecosystem (integration & synergies) and BRI (Bioraffi nerie Recherches & Innovations), an inno-vation platform that is organized around ARD (AgroIn-dustrie Recherches & Développements), which is a R&D center owned by the cooperatives. Presently, BRI forms the “technological heart” of the competitiveness cluster IAR (Industries & Agroressources).
The congress participants are invited to attend the visitof one of 4 major French industrial sites that will be organisedon thursday, November 21, 2013.

The ACDV aggregates about forty major industrial actors of agro-resources, French chemistry and downstream industries that invest for the long-term development of biobased chemistry. Spearheading the association in Europe, the ACDV is:
● Representing and promoting the biobased chemical sectorThe Association drafts a serie of common positions and arguments, aimed at players in the biobased chemical industry, the French and European authorities, the media and NGOs, so as to build an appropriate framework for the development of biobased chemical intermediaries.
● Identifying major challenges facing the industryThis involves guiding the industry on which areas to direct R&D efforts, and to promote innovation, particularly in the fi eld of industrial biotechnology, using demonstrations of future integrated bio-refi neries.
● Implementing a survey on economic and technical intelligenceThis involves an international survey and investigations to evaluate current technological and economic trends in the biobased chemical sector, worldwide. It is conducted by a team of scientists, expert in this fi eld.
● Embarking on strategic planningFor the various paths of action to be taken for different market sectors (e.g. construction, cosmetics, automotives, aeronautics, and packaging).
INFOPRO Digital is a leading player in the business-to-business information media in France. Among others, the group edits the leading magazines Formule Verte, Info Chimie, Industrie Pharma,
L’Usine Nouvelle, Emballages and LSA. It organizes more than 200 events in sectors like automotive, aeronautics, coatings, chemistry, packaging, ... key industrial end-users for the biobased products.
