WUXI, Sister CityMain Industries: Manufacturing, Textiles, TechnologyA 3,000 year-old city on the Yangtze River in Jiangsu Province, Wuxi is criss-crossed with older canals, making it an attractive tourist and residential draw where many private gardens or parks were built by learned scholars. Wuxi’s modern economy focused on the textile (silk) and rice markets. Currently, Wuxi is pioneering green industries and is home to the corporate headquarters of Sun Tech Power, the world’s largest producer of silicon solar modules. Designated an investment grade city by the Chinese government, Wuxi has two large industrial parks devoted to new industries such as electric motor manufacturing, software development and solar.

NANJINGMain Industries: Electronics, Automotive, Petrochemicals, Iron, Steel, PowerNanjing is the capital of Jiangsu Province in the southeast on the south bank of the Yangtze River. Nanjing’s three special economic zones are home to manufacturing and production facilities for some of the world’s leading multinational corporations.Nanjing is the second largest commercial center in the East China region, after Shanghai. It has been ranked fourth by Forbes magazine in its listing of “2008 Top 100 Business Cities in Mainland China,” and second in the evaluation of cities with most sustainable development potential in the Yangtze River Delta.

We will be attending the Wuxi International Sister Cities Forum, where Councilman Nirenberg will be speaking.
