Thank you to those that attended and shared!

Snowball—sharing ideas

To start we shared ideas of how to support EAL learners. To

do this we wrote down an idea, then scrunched up the paper

ANGELA DE-BRITOS ¡BILINGUALISM DOES MATTER!

GARY SHIELDS USING ETWINNING

Angela talked about

the ‘Mother Tongue

Other Tongue’ pro-

ject. One category

is : ‘Mother Tongue’

where children write

poems in their

mother tongue. Last

year 36 different

languages were

represented. The

‘Other Tongue’ cate-

gory

incorporates the lan-

guage that children

are learning in

school.

At the end of the

project there was a

celebration event at

SECC.

KIRSTEN BARRETT

USING TWITTER

Kirsten and her

colleague Claire use

twitter

(@wearebilingual)

with their bilingual

learners in a variety

of schools.

Children are

encouraged to share

poems, songs, and

their work via twitter.

This gives the

children a voice to be

heard. There is also

opportunity to share

with families at

home. 2
