O(1ecti2e: &his study aimed to determine the reasons of the early pregnancy and its

    effects towards them'

"esearch 3ocale: &he research study was conducted in 'outhern (hilippines )ollege

#ulio (acana 't., )agayan de *ro )ity.

"esearch Participants: &he research participants are the early pregnant mothers and

    teenagers of 'outhern (hilippines )ollege.

"esearch nstru!ent: &he research instrument to be used in this study is a survey

    %uestionnaire.

Conclusion: &his study illustrated the fact that most of the youth tend to have se+ with

their boyfriends without being mindful on their risk of being pregnant. &he fact that a

lack of knowledge about proper se+ual health practices endangers their life as well as

their future specifically in their opportunity of finishing their high school and college

studies. A lack of knowledge about se+ and se+uality did not prepare them about what

to e+pect in relationships, and what it means to be a parent. ven though they have

been pregnant at an early age their situations as a teenage mom pushed then to be a

good person and a good mother for their baby.

&he purpose of this chapter is to review the available literature focusing on the

areas of policy relating to teenage pregnancy under e+ploration in this thesis. Having

presented the various trends in teenage pregnancy and related rates as well as

associated and causal factors in the previous chapter, this chapter begins by providing

further e+planation as to why the three particular areas of policy chosen for e+ploration

were se+ education, se+ual health and education. &he remainder of this chapter then

concentrates on reviewing the available literature for those three policy areas.

In order to become pregnant, generally, se+ual intercourse needs to have taken

place and contraception to have not been used or not been used effectively or the

contraceptive itself has failed. In )hapter *ne, the most apparent key difference

between Finland and 'cotland, that may go some way to e+plaining the differing trends

in teenage pregnancy between the two countries, was that of the contraceptive use of

    young people.

In order to use contraception there are at least three underlying factors which

must be present. First, young people must have knowledge of issues relating to se+,

    se+uality and contraception

    :

obtain contraceptive advice and services. &hey must also perceive that they have Jreal8

Ignorance about se+ and se+uality places young people at risk of pregnancy,

'&Is and abuse. In addition a lack of knowledge about se+ and se+uality would also not

prepare young people about what to e+pect in relationships, what it means to be a

parent, or provide them with the ability to be in control of their own se+ual identities and
