Back Ground :

A beginning was made in the year 1931, for development of seweragesystem in Hyd & Sec’bad, covering an area of 54 Sqkm. for a population of4,68,000

Later Developments :Old City:‘A’ & H&L mains laid with laterals, (sewage is carried through a siphon atChadarghat and outfall sewer to Amberpet Treatment Plant).

New City & Sec’bad:K&S trunk sewer from IDPL to Amberpet, and Kalasiguda Main fromSec’bad Station to Hussainsagar surplus nala to join K&S main.

Musi River flows through midst of the Hyderabad Citybifurcating city as South of Musi and North of Musi.

The entire sewage flows to River Musi throughvarious open nalas from South & North parts.

To contain such dry weather flows in the nalas and inthe Musi River, the Ministry of Environment & Forests,GoI, has approved a project under National RiverConservation Plan of NRCD for laying suitableConveying Mains, construction of Interception &Diversion Structures on Nalas and Sewage TreatmentPlants for treatment and disposal of sewage.

OUTCOMES OF THE NRCD Ph-I PROJECT:

• A total of 592 Mld sewage treatment facilities developedi) Amberpet- 339 Mldii) Nagole - 172 Mldiii) Nallacheruvu - 30 Mldiv) Attaupr - 51 Mld

• The sewage is treated to river disposable standards and being let intoriver musi, thereby improvement in the river hydrology and environs

• The sewage entering into musi through 16 open nalas have beenintercepted and being conveyed to the STP of respective catchment'sarea.

• Trunk conveying mains of 1200 mm - 2000 mm dia have been laid for theabove purpose

• Improved sanitation facility through Phase-I is achieved to the citizens ofHyderabad, thereby maintaining hygienic conditions in the habitation andimproved hydrology in the river

NRCD Project Ph-II

• At the time of preparation of first project proposals, the dryweather flows in the project area was considered for 363.3Sqkm drainage basin area i.e. the area of erstwhile MCH forthe flows of 2005 horizon year for 592 Mld.

• Due to rapid urbanization, further water supply sourceaugmentation was implemented to meet the water supplydemands of Hyderabad City.

• Resulting additional sewage flows are being generated inMusi catchment area requiring additional conveying mains andtreatment facilities.

• Accordingly, as per the guidance of MoEF, GoI, the HMWSSBprepared and submitted the Detailed Project Report for Ph-IIproject under NRCD.

SALIENT FEATURES - NRCD PROJECT Ph-II

Total catchment basin area considered under the project is 574.59Sqkm covering the entire GHMC area draining to Musi river. (MCHwas expanded as GHMC)

The project area on South of Musi is - 158.43 Sqkm i.e. 27.56%

The project area on North of Musi is - 416.11 Sqkm i.e. 72.44%

As per the population projections, the expected sewage flow:For South of Musi – 2024 - 412 Mld

- 2044 - 503 Mld

For North of Musi – 2024 - 926 Mld- 2044 - 1324 Mld
