Performance monitoring, real time alerting, and custom reporting giving storage visibility for the entirety of their VM

infrastructure using an xStats adapter that interacts with the Pure Storage REST API.

How will customers benefit from this solution?

This solution gives customers a view into the Storage layer of their VM infrastructure that is provided by Pure storage.

By leveraging existing mechanisms of SevOne such as threshold monitoring and baseline calculations, data collected via

the Pure storage API can be rapidly acted upon by DevOps personnel.

What high-level features will this solution deliver?

The solution will deliver storage statistics into the SevOne system where it can then be baselined and alerted against.

Combined with other important infrastructure data, a more complete view of Application performance can be derived.

User experience of applications can be correlated to storage related issues such as I/O spikes and drops. Once ingested

into SevOne, this data can also be further analyzed for projection, baselines and deviations from them and other standard

SevOne features.

What functionality will this provide the customer and what is the benefit of that functionality?

Storage Statistics presented by the Pure storage API can be inserted into SevOne via this solution. This enables users to

couple this data with other performance metrics surrounding their VM infrastructure as well utilize SevOne’s analytical

offerings such as stand deviation alerting.

What is a sample use case?

A sample use case would be a MSP deploying a new full stack deployment with Pure storage providing the storage layer.

Installing SevOne with the Pure storage xStats solution will enable the customer to create a full end-to-end view of

applications experience from Storage, to Compute, to Network, and provide key detailed views of each. Their support

personnel can be alerted of deviations before the support calls come in and work to fix them before customers notice an

impact to their services.

Solution Overview

What does the solution do?

The Pure Storage solution is an all flash storage array offering, and operates on pure storage operating system dubbed

Purity. Purity as some great offerings around data reduction, and replication for high availability. The SevOne and pure

storage solution leverages the pure storage REST API to bring the available storage layer stats into SevOne. This marries

all the data collected and available through the Purity REST API to all the features SevOne offers and retain 1 year of this

historic data at a 5 minute granularity. Theses features include custom reporting features, email alerting based on data

such as deviations from baseline data, projections

How Does the Solution Work

How does it do it?

SevOne will connect to the pure storage array via its REST interface and either login with pre-supplied credentials or

authenticate using a pre-shared API token for the user. If the credentials are pre-supplied, SevOne will ask for a

temporary token to authenticate for the collection session and the token is destroyed when collection finishes.

Once a connection is established, the xStats collector will run through all the KPIs to collect and perform the

appropriate REST calls to collect them. It will then write the returned metrics to a flat file which will then be

consumed by the standard xStats processing method. Once data is inserted into the SevOne DB it can then be

graphed and alerted upon.

How Is the Solution Deployed

What firewall access (IP ports etc) is needed between SevOne and the solution?

SevOne will need a web connection to the pure storage management interface (HTTPS, port 443). The rest of the

protocols will use the standard configured ports in the customer’s environment.

What username / password / access needs to be configured between SevOne and the solution?

SevOne will need a user provisioned on the Pure storage machine, or a pre-defined API token for a user.
