SIM Free Handset• If you handset is SIM free and compliant with Japanese regulations and meets technical

requirements, you can keep using your phone with a new SIM card. • SIM cards can be prepaid, postpaid or rental.

Prepaid phone• Prepaid phones can be purchased at cell phone stores. The handsets starts around 5,000 yen. • Credits (prepaid cards) are available at cell phone stores and convenience stores. .

Types of planPhones may be subsidized or purchased at full price by installment. Subsidized phones usuallyrequire a 2 year service contract.

You can make a contract with the carrier of your choice by visiting their local shop or an electric retailstore.

Having a credit card will make the registration and monthly payment process easier therefore werecommend you to sign up for a credit card at a bank in your home country before coming to Japan.

Commuter PassRakuten pays you the cost for commuter pass

About commuter ’s pass• Commuter pass can be purchased at a station that has a commuter ticket office or ticketing

machine for commuter pass. • You will need to provide the following information when purchasing a commuter pass:

• Your name, age, address and phone number• Two stations between which you would like to commute• Length of validity of the pass (one, three, or six months)

Suica / Pasmo• Suica/PASMO is a convenient, public transportation IC card system which allows for repeated use

of a single chargeable card. • A single Suica/PASMO card allows you to travel on rail and bus in the Tokyo metropolitan area and

can also be used for payment as electronic money when making purchases at stores participating in Suica/PASMO electronic money system. It is convenient to have Named Suica/PASMO as this can be used as a commuter pass. For more details, please refer to the below links:
