•  A  blog  can  be  thought  of  as  a  magazine  or  newspaper  ar%cle.  

•  Blogs  can  have  many  authors  who  contribute  or  be  the  work  of  just  one  blogger.  

•  Readers  can  add  their  comments  to  ar%cles,  which  encourages  feedback  to  the  blogging  process.

•  A  single  entry  on  your  blog.    •  The  format  can  be:  – Wri9en  –  Video  – Audio  –  Images  – Or  a  combina%on  of  all  of  the  above.    

•  Entries  are  organized  sequen%ally  by  date,  the  latest  appearing  at  the  top  of  the  page.

•  WordPress  is  an  open  source  blogging  tool.    •  Open  Source  means  that  the  basic  soTware  is  free  and  code  is  shared  among  developers.  

 •  It  began  in  2003  and  as  of  2013  more  than  60  million  websites  have  been  built  using  WordPress.

•  Sign  Up  Process:  h9p://wordpress.com      

•  You  need  to  give  your  blog  an  address  &  name.      •  The  address  could  be  AwesomeBlog.WordPress.com  •  The  name  could  be  Eileen  Lonergan’s  Awesome  Blog    

•  You  can  choose  to  have  your  site  visible  to  all,  crawled  by  search  engines  or  set  to    private.  

 •  Note:  crawled  by  search  engines  means  that  Google,  Bing  and  the  

other  engines  will  comb  through  your  site  and  poten%ally  list  it  in  search  results.

•  Check  your  email  and  confirm  that  you  want  to  create  the  blog.  

•  This  will  bring  you  into  your  Dashboard,  which  is  command  central  for  your  blog.

1.  Give  the  post  a  %tle.  2.  The  next  large  box  is  where  you  add  the  text.  3.  The  sec%on  above  the  text  box  has  op%ons  

for  styling.    The  op%ons  are  very  similar  to  a  Word  document.  

4.  If  you  click  the  li9le  camera  icon  that  says  Add  Media  you  can  add  an  image  into  your  page  or  post.

 The  right  hand  side  of  the  page  is  where  you  can  save  your  post  or  page  as  a  draT,  preview  what  you  have  done  or  publish.

1.   Bold  2.  Italic  3.  Strike-­‐through  4.  Unordered  list  (bullet  points):    5.  Ordered  list    6.  Blockquote  (a  way  of  displaying  quoted  text;  each  theme  will  style  this  differently.)  

Always  forgive  your  enemies;  nothing  annoys  them  so  much.  7.  Align  LeT  8.  Align  Center  9.  Align  Right  10.  Insert/edit  link  11.  Unlink  12.  Insert  More  tag  13.  Proofread/Spell  Check  14.  Toggle  Distrac%on  Free  Wri%ng  (this  removes  the  visual  editor  and  you  will  only  see  your  text  on  

the  page.)  15.  Show/Hide  Kitchen  sink  (enables  the  second  row  of  edi%ng  icons)

1.  Style  –  various  formalng  styles  defined  by  your  theme  

2.  Underline  3.  Align  full  4.  Select  text  color  –  change  the  text  color  5.  Paste  as  Plain  Text  6.  Paste  from  Word  7.  Remove  formalng  8.  Insert  custom  character  9.  Outdent  –  move  text  further  leT  10.  Indent  –  move  text  further  right  11.  Undo  –  undo  your  last  ac%on  12.  Redo  –  redo  your  last  ac%on  13.  Help  –  display  some  informa%on  about  using  

the  editor,  as  well  as  keyboard  shortcuts.
