The drawer units of Sestiere collection are pieces of furniture thought and produced by Abbiani, which relies on craftsmen’s creativity that flourished in the Venetian territory and high-quality materials, such as Murano glass.

Abbiani achieved an innovative design that is more than the classic industrial production. Unique, authentic and fine pieces were produced thanks to the care in manufacturing and the inspiration contained in shapes and materials.

The Sestiere collection of the brand Abbiani is composed of three drawer units,

which in their uniqueness differ from one another and match in their shapes and materials.

The units with the front in Murano glass are a complete novelty thought and produced by Abbiani.

The light, colour and material effects of the renowned streaked Murano glass

evoke the properties of water and nature. Craftsmen use the glass fusion and bending

technique to obtain a fluid material, enriched with the distinctive tiny bubbles, and fine surfaces: shiny, uneven and silky.

The thickness of material features wavy lines that recall the boats sailing smoothly

in the Venice lagoon.

The oak wood is characterised by elegant, thin and even wood grains. It is suitable to cover the frame made with a more resistant plywood. The grains cover each side of the unit without interruption, conveying a “monolith” look combined with a smooth and sinous glass.

The traditional Venetian glass culture and craftsmanship are at the base of Sestiere collection units, which are authentic Made in Italy products.

Materials

Drawers fronts in Murano glass, with a certificate of origin: opaque white and streaked crystal (transparent). The streaked glass, with its typical coloured pattern, is the result of a raw material special processing aimed at the production of unique and non-replicable sheets. The Murano glass stands out thanks to the distinctive and variegated tiny bubbles in the glass mass. Formerly, glass production developed in one of Venice’s islands, Murano, and the same techniques are used still today.

Drawers in solid beechwood are kept together by woo-den pins and multilayer poplar bottom. Content height 8 cm, effective height 14 cm.

Frame made entirely with multilayer birch wood, 20 mm thickness. Every component, including the bottom and internal partitions and the external veneer (cover) are in oak wood, where-as the internal veneer is in beechwood. Acrylic paint finish.

Solid beechwood feet treated with acrylic paint.

Push and open mechanism with steel guideways and rollers, the maximum opening exposes 75% of the drawer, equal to 30 cm.

Production

Murano glass is processed with glass fusion techniques so that fronts have a thickness of about 10 cm. Further processing stages in the furnace enable the bending and gauging of the glass. The different parts feature a “drop” finishing to achieve round, polished, soft and smooth edges along the entire perimeter.

The wooden frame is covered using a hot pressing process. The different elements are joined at 45 degrees, therefore the furniture features the typical “monolith” look, without any visible joint.

The fastening of the elements in wood and glass is the result of a process thought for this furniture, based on the on site structural positioning.

The pieces can be combined together matching their lines, thanks to a metallic spacer (not visible) that guarantees the regular continuity of the wavy surface pattern in Murano glass.

For Abbiani, the Made in Italy is a quality and origin guarantee.

Abbiani’s units are rigorously Made in Italy, they are produced in Veneto,

the Italian region bonded to Venice.

“Sestiere”, the name given to the furniture collection, confirms this bond: just like Venice,

which is divided in six districts called sestieri, the units that compose the collection

feature six drawers made with Murano glass, Venice’s glass.
