SESSION 3: GENRE

Page 2: Session 3:Genre

Initial IdeasThe fable we chose was ‘The Boy that cried Wolf’ and our

primary ideas for genre was mainly a Comedy Mockumentary

Initially these two ideas seemed like a good idea however making sure that the plot and the moral was kept similar to the original fable was difficult and not what we sure of choosing.

Then we decided to keep the mockumentary and add horror. However that seemed very complicated to achieve. So evidently we decided to chose Horror as being the genre we would use to adapt ‘The Boy that cried Wolf’

Horror Within the adaptation of our short film the element of Horror will be shown near the ending

of the short film. Also the sub- Genre we have chosen is a Slasher Horror

which mostly focuses on the characters and some elements of thriller. To help our group

understand the use of the slasher Horror was: http://www.cracked.com/funny-1005-

horror-movies/ Death and violence

Firstly in slasher films there are many ways that deaths can be carried out and we

chose the simple use of stabbing the victim. Just like in the movie ‘Scream’ and

‘Halloween’

Characters Also as mentioned before, the characters are very important.

The male character who is the victim almost

certainly dies a very

gruesome slow death. Which could be shown in our

Short film the ‘female fatale’/ villain shows her vendetta

Against the boy Harry slowly, leading up to his doom.

Background to a slasher Horror Exposition of the film

In beginning of most Horror films everyone is very happy and normal until tension is created and provides the step for someone to die. And within our short film we adapted the fable through the lies that the boy is telling soon creates tension as the lies go out of control and lead him to his downfall.

Location

Some traditional setting that have been used in slasher films are houses and schools. Which is shown in the exposition, the climax where the violence and death begins is usually taken place in houses or woods as we have also chosen to use.
