We say: think about 4 Ps

1. Purpose

2. Pitch

3. Presence

4. Personality

Page 7: Session 2 - Effective presentations

Purpose

• Know what you’re trying to achieve with your presentation

• Clarity of purpose is your top priority• Don’t just inform, but inspire! Leave

your audience with an action to take

Page 8: Session 2 - Effective presentations

Pitch

• Varying the volume and tone of your voice serves to provide emphasis to key points

• Consider the listener – a monotonous delivery causes people to switch off!

• Project your voice, but don’t shout• Pauses are effective at getting

people’s attention – use them!

Page 9: Session 2 - Effective presentations

Presence

• A straight posture projects confidence - Avoid hunching your back

• Open hand gestures are best – keep your hands OUT of your pockets!

• Know the content of your speech – cuts down on filler words, which undermine message

Page 10: Session 2 - Effective presentations

Personality

• People will buy into you first, and Team Up second – show yourself off!

• Think about how you can engage the students

• Intersperse the presentation with humour – has a disarming effect

Page 12: Session 2 - Effective presentations
