A Note From the Pastor ` What an incredible service we had this past Sunday. I hope you were blessed by the promotions and the extended prayer time for all our children and teachers, and then to follow it up with 4 baptisms. God really blessed us.

With each new school year, there is a great sense of anticipation and sometimes a great sense of fear. I want to share with you four specific prayers for our children that I read on the Unlockingthebible web site. First, let’s pray for their peace. With homework and assignment deadlines added on top of the already stressful class time and just trying to fit in, it makes for a difficult year. Let’s ask God to give them His peace, not the peace of the world.

Second, we need to pray for their wisdom. Being successful in school is something all children desire deep down. Putting in long hours of studying for test and then not making what they want can lead to a massive letdown. Pray that they discover that true wisdom comes from seeking God first and let Him give them the knowledge they need to succeed. Third, we need to ask God to give them endurance. It is a LONG school year and they will give out before it’s over if they cannot pace themselves. This endurance will also help them with relationships and the choices they must make during this time.

And last, let’s ask God to give them hope. Life can be confusing at times and they will encounter situations that may seem hopeless, let’s pray they will discover their true hope is found in a close, personal relationship with Jesus. Children are a gift from the Lord and we need to treat them with as much care and love as we can.

I want to thank all those who helped with the Camo for Christ back to school rally. I felt it was a huge success and it was followed up with a number of new visitors in our services last week.

Please make sure you reach out to all these new faces, you will be blessed by new relationships. Our verse this week comes from Proverbs 1:7 The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge; fools despise wisdom and instruction. Have a blessed week and remember to point someone to Jesus.

Music Notes from Bro Craig Thank the Lord for His continued movement and adding to His family here at FBC. We are blessed to have

welcomed to the family of God Kaylee Midkiff, Grant Moffit, and Elizabeth Haymon. May we be the kind of church that contributes to their growth in the knowledge and love of Jesus.

I want to thank those who have used their talents in worship the last couple of weeks. We were blessed to have the Generation Ladies, composed of Shirley Quinones, Kathleen Brown, and Elizabeth Cyr, share with us a beautiful testimony with “I Will Trust in You.” (I will leave it up to you to figure out who is from what generation). Sean Slate ministered to us with a soulful melody on the 13th, despite the issues with the sound system. The Adult Choir sang wonderfully on “Lamb of God” (with soloist Aleta Moss), “Just As I Am,” “I’ve Been Changed,” and “Sinner Saved By Grace.” Elizabeth and Sean have been inspirational on the instruments. Thank you all for using your talents in the Lord’s service.

We have been blessed to have a couple of outstanding children’s events the last couple of weeks with the “Daughters of the King” and “Camo for Christ” events. Thank you to Karen Skinner for organizing these great times for the children and to all who have helped in any way.

Everyone remember that this Sunday, August 20, our Children’s Choir will be presenting “Praise Rocks” in the morning service. Please be in prayer for our kids as they try to minister to their church family Also, remember that this Monday, August 21, will be the monthly Nursing Home Sing-a-long at the Woodlands. Everyone is invited to come minister with us. We meet at the Woodlands at 3 PM.

DMA, our monthly meeting will be on the 24th. Come enjoy a special time as a family. Games begin at 9:30 AM and the program will be at 10:30 AM. Everyone bring a covered dish or dessert. Our local schools are all in session now, and the colleges will soon follow suit. Please be in prayer for all of those involved in the school year in any way, that God will keep them all safe, that they will prosper academically, and that the Light of Christ will shine through His children.

Finally, let me thank everyone for their prayers for Andrew while he was working at Fuge camps this summer. He is home safely and had an amazing summer. I am sure that a big part of that is due to the prayer support from all of you.

May God bless you all more abundantly than you could ever hope or expect.

What a wonderful night for these young girls –Daughters of the King as they were pampered

and praised to get ready for school! A Big “Thank You” to Karen Skinner for her organization and

to all the ladies who helped with this endeavor!

A Thank You Letter After the service, I couldn’t stop thinking about my children and the local school system and this church. I just felt convicted to write this letter of gratitude to our school system employees and church members. My boys were probably 10 and 4 when we started attending church at FBC. Looking back, there is no way Bill and I could have done it all on our own. Every school our boys attended, there was a FBC member on staff somewhere keeping an eye out on them. Making sure they were put in the right class, tapping them on the shoulder in the hallway when they were getting just a little too rowdy, giving them a hug when you could tell they were having a bad day, and all the prayers (solicited and unsolicited), all of it made a difference. By no means am I saying that they are perfect but you have been their family since 2001 and I cannot thank you all enough. Since that time, we have had 3 pastors, 2-3 interim pastors, a couple of music ministers, and several youth ministers. We have a revolving membership because of Fort Polk. But First Baptist Church has been a constant. My boys look up to the men in this church as role models and love the attention and affection given them by the sweet women in this church. I have never had to worry about them within these walls, which has made it easier to not worry about them outside these walls. I am so very grateful for all your prayers over my children over the years. Please don’t stop. Sincerely, Ellen Tyree.
