Servicing your Test & Measurement Equipment (TME) regularly will ensure you get the maximum working lifespan from your equipment.

At NWI we use Australian or Internationally recognised Standard Test Procedures to test our customer’s TME where they are available. If no Standard Test Procedures are written for the equipment we will test in accordance with Manufacturer’s Specifications. All NWI test equipment is calibrated and checked to ensure traceability to National and International Standards.

Our experienced service technicians will take care of your test equipment in accordance with our Quality Management System requirements and can pick up on warning signs that normal users may miss before they become a more expensive issue further down the line.

Frequent servicing can reduce the likelihood of your equipment needing adjustment when being calibrated, again, saving costs in the long term. The correct calibration of your TME is a major contributor to the accuracy and reliability of measurements performed. Having TME checked at regular intervals will increase reliability as well as providing traceability for your Quality Management System or for regulatory purposes. The extent to which calibration needs to be applied on TME is dependant on the application. For some companies end product quality can be greatly impacted if TME is not measuring accurately. In these applications it is essential that process equipment is frequently calibrated with traceability in accordance with manufacturers specifications.

When deciding whether or not to calibrate your equipment ask yourself

Why service or calibrate your Test & Measurement Equipment at NWI?

• Can I rely on the results being accurate?

• Has the equipment been handled in accordance with manufacturers specifications by all users?

• What would be the impact if I approved incorrect results?

• How important is the accuracy of results you obtain from your test equipment?

• Does your customer expect you to provide evidence of a traceable calibration?

What do we mean by calibration?

Calibration can be broken down into two parts: confirmation and adjustment. Firstly, confirmation. By using a Reference or Standard of known value it is possible to discover the ‘indicated value’ of your TME. Secondly, adjustment. If the known value of your TME is confirmed to be out with tolerances, our technicians will work on your equipment to bring it within the designated tolerances.

At NWI we use Standards that are traceable to International Standards giving you even more confidence in the results we provide. Calibrating your TME regularly ensures it is operating within its optimal parameters. As shown in the diagram.

Calibrating your equipment can greatly reduce your errors and will have a knock-on effect on the testing you carry out with your TIME.

We are Endorsed by NATA for ‘ISO 17025 General requirements for the competence of testing and calibration laboratories’, it is the main standard that all calibration and testing laboratories are accredited to. In Australia, and many other countries a laboratory must hold accreditation for this international standard to be deemed technically competent.

Holding a NATA accreditation means that we have a third party auditing us on a regular basis. Regular third party auditing assists us to improve our Quality Management System and ensures that we continue to adhere to the proper guidelines and procedures. To continue to have NATA endorsement, our testing equipment used to generate certificates must be traceable to National Calibration Standards. All the values given on our NATA Endorsed Certificates are reported with a calculated measurement uncertainty so that you can be entirely sure of the accuracy limits of your TME.

The role of the National Australian Testing Authority (NATA) is to ensure that member facilities comply with relevant International and Australian Standards and therefore are competent to provide consistently reliable testing, calibration and measurement.
