Jeta Gardens

27 Clarendon Ave Bethania, 4205, Queensland, Australia.Free call: 1800 227 818 Tel: +61 7 3200 7188 Fax: +61 7 3200 7100Website: http://www.jetagardens.com Email: [email protected]

In 2011, KPJ Healthcare Berhad further demonstrated its commitment to providing quality care for people of all ages when it acquired a majority stake in Australian aged-care centre – Jeta Gardens. Located near Brisbane and the Gold Coast over 34 acres of scenic land, it has redefined the concept of a retirement home by combining quality geriatric care services with world-class amenities and facilities that would not be amiss in a five-star hotel. Indeed Jeta Gardens’ aim of being a ‘retirement resort’ is part and parcel of its mission to show that one’s golden years can be both pleasurable and productive.

Residents can choose to live in spacious villas or apartments, all of which have been designed specifically to meet the needs of the elderly, and which also boast superb views of scenic panoramas. Meals and laundry services are available on demand, thus ensuring that residents need not worry about such trifles. In order to further reinforce the community aspect of Jeta Gardens, a Club House is also available for parties and gatherings. Furthermore, one can also play games such as table

tennis, keep fit in the gym, go for a new do in the hair salon, practise tai-chi, or enjoy delicious Asian and Western dishes in the in-house restaurant.

The Chinese-design theme of Jeta Gardens – makes it very attractive for the sizeable Asian community there. Residents can take leisurely strolls around the delightful gardens, have a BBQ party, or enjoy the fresh air in healthy outdoor activity. They can also take boat rides on the Logan River, or plant their own little garden.

Of course, Jeta Gardens does not forget that its main role is to provide care to its elderly residents – some of whom require specialist medical and nursing care. Thus, it provides beds for both high-care and low-care patients, including those with dementia or who require palliative treatment. At the front line are qualified nurses, led by a Director of Nursing assisted by a Deputy Director, as well as physiotherapists, other therapists, and on-call medical practitioners. Also worth mentioning is that all the staff are fluent in one or more Asian languages, thus ensuring that communication will not be a hindrance.

As the leading private healthcare group in Malaysia, KPJ Healthcare Berhad has a network of hospitals offering a comprehensive range of medical services and employing some of the foremost specialists in their fields. As such, it is a key player in the promotion of Malaysia as a health tourism hub.

According to a report by NuWire Investors in 2008, Malaysia is one of the top three health tourism destinations. Following a study which predicted a 25% growth per annum in the sector from 2009 to 2011, and in order to tap into this market, the Malaysia Healthcare Travel Council (MHTC) was launched in 2009 with the intention of developing the sector. Datin Paduka Siti Sa’diah – the Managing Director of KPJ Healthcare Berhad, is one of the members appointed to this council.

Apart from the lower cost of medical treatment compared with places such as the United States, Australia and Europe, Malaysia is already a popular tourism destination by itself. Therefore, health tourism in the country has great potential as it allows people to enjoy a vacation and seek treatment at the same time.

Bringing The World To Malaysia

KPJ Healthcare Berhad has been an active player in the promotion of Malaysia as a health tourism destination, and among the target markets are travellers from the Middle East.

PORT DICKSON: Advertising guidelines for the healthcare sector will be further liberalised in order to promote medical tourism in this country, and to ensure that the targets set for the sector under the National Key Economic Areas will be achieved, Health Minister Datuk Seri Liow Tiong Lai said yesterday. He said the guidelines also will help the country compete with its neighbours to become one of the healthcare hubs in the region.

“Health practitioners appealed to the government for a review as they are losing out to others in attracting medical tourists.“Although doctors and hospitals are now allowed to advertise their services, there are certain limitations. We will review this and see how it will further boost the health industry,” he said to

reporters after opening the Chief Executive Officers Summit for Malaysian Healthcare Travel, here. The review of the guidelines was also timely, Liow said, as many healthcare services offered in Malaysia are already world-class standard.

He said Malaysia’s share of the healthcare pie is still very small compared to Singapore and Thailand, which have shown stronger growth every year. With the right strategies and concerted efforts, he said, healthcare tourism in this country can go further and have the potential to capture a greater share of the market.

“We have a lot more advantages compared to our neighbours, and we ought to get a bigger share of the healthcare travel global market. To me, it all boils down to the commitment of industry players, and whether you have the passion to make the best out of it,” he said.In the first nine months of this year some 350,000 foreigners – the majority from Indonesia – sought treatment in this country and spent some RM380 million in the process, he said.

The government is targeting a revenue of some RM430 million from healthcare travel this year, up by 22 per cent from last year, he said. — Bernama

Leading the way

KPJ Healthcare Berhad is contributing by ensuring excellence in all areas in all its hospitals – from medical treatment to nursing care. With 11 of its hospitals accredited by the Malaysian Society for Quality in Health (MSQH) and with the other 9 set to follow, KPJ Healthcare Berhad is showing that the quality of its hospitals are on par with the best in the world.

To date, eight KPJ hospitals have been identified by the Ministry of Health as facilities for promoting health tourism in Malaysia. They are KPJ Tawakkal Specialist Hospital, KPJ Selangor Specialist Hospital, Sentosa Medical Centre, KPJ Johor Specialist Hospital, KPJ Ampang Puteri Specialist Hospital, KPJ Damansara Specialist Hospital, KPJ Ipoh Specialist Hospital, and Puteri Specialist Hospital.

Health tourists seeking treatment at KPJ hospitals come from all over the world – with the most common being from other Southeast Asian countries, Japan, Australia, and the United Kingdom. Furthermore, owing to Malaysia’s position as a Muslim-majority country, many travellers from Muslim countries such as Pakistan, Bangladesh and the Middle East nations have also sought the services of KPJ.

Facilitating health tourists

Apart from providing medical services, KPJ Healthcare Berhad also helps facilitate the arrival and stay of health travellers. Its International Patient Services Centre (IPS) is a one-stop centre staffed by service-oriented and professional personnel who help intending patients find the right specialists in the KPJ network of doctors, as well as provide any procedural details and estimates of treatment costs.

Furthermore, the IPS team is also able to help health travellers with visa applications and accommodation for family members accompanying the patient. Other services include transfer from the airport to the hotel, interpreter services, and local sight-seeing tours.

Focus Areas

Featuring a wide range of specialty health services and facilities as well as specialists, KPJ Healthcare Berhad’s hospitals are often sought by those seeking treatment in such fields as Cardiology, Cosmetic and Reconstructive Services and Surgery, Oncology, Radiotherapy and Chemotherapy, Ophthalmology, and Orthopaedic Surgery. Other popular services include Obstetrics and Gynaecology, Paediatric and Neonatal Care, and Health Screening and Wellness.

Care for the YoungDr Pezhman Hafez and ArazWhen six-year old Araz Hafez woke up one day with a sore throat that was so severe, he was unable to swallow, his father – Iranian post-graduate medical student – Dr Pezhman was in a quandary. Having heard positive testimonials about the quality of KPJ Ampang Puteri Specialist Hospital from his fellow students, Dr Pezhman decided to take his son there. To say that he was impressed would be putting it mildly.

“First of all, the facilities there were all top-notch, and the air of professionalism there really inspires confidence. Also the paediatrician who treated Araz was wonderful. She spoke to him with care and concern, and even made him laugh. And when she explained his condition, she was very clear and detailed, and she really made us feel at ease,” he said. As he and his wife are both medical practitioners who have travelled to different parts of the world, Dr Pezhman Hafez has knowledge of what makes a world-class healthcare facility, and as he so succinctly puts it, “KPJ Ampang Puteri Specialist Hospital is up there with the best.”

“What I like best about KPJ hospitals is the specialists in KPJ

have their clinics in the hospitals, so patients

can be warded and also receive specialist care at

the same time.

The Language of CareMarc BenkelmannMarc Benkelmann is fluent in three languages – including English and his native German – and owns his own translation company. Yet for this multi-lingual expatriate, sometimes the most effective language in a healthcare environment is not spoken but shown. “I go to Tawakkal hospital,” he said, “and whenever I am there, no matter how unwell I may be feeling, the warm smiles from the nurses and others there make me feel better immediately. Of course, quality of treatment is also important, and I am really impressed by the qualifications and the experience of the doctors there.”

Having lived in many other countries, Marc is able to compare and contrast the standards of hospitals, and gives KPJ Tawakkal Specialist Hospital, two thumbs up. “The quality of healthcare and the doctors at the hospital are on par with developed nations. In fact, I would say it is better because in Europe, you often have to make an appointment weeks in advance before a specialist will see you. So the system here is really patient-friendly,” he grinned.

Marc

Once, I sprained my lower back and went to KPJ Tawakkal Specialist Hospital for treatment. Instead of giving me plenty of expensive pills which would not address the problem, the doctor referred me to a physiotherapist, who took the time to teach me

simple but effective exercises I could do at home.

It is nice to know that the doctor isn’t that eager to prescribe medication but instead empowers me with the knowledge to treat

and prevent my problem from re-occuring.

Care between NationsHE Abdulla Mohammed Ali Al-Montaser and Fawzeayh Having lived in Malaysia since October 2010, when he was appointed as the Ambassador of Yemen to Malaysia, H.E Abdulla Mohammed Ali Al-Montaser as well as his wife, Fawzeayh, and their two daughters have made KPJ Ampang Puteri Specialist Hospital their family hospital. Praising the excellent service at the hospital, the Ambassador said, “Other than the excellent diagnosis of the experienced doctors, I am really impressed by how the doctors take the effort to build a relationship with patients, because trust is very important in healthcare and the only way to build and maintain trust is when you establish a relationship with your patients.”

Madam Fawzeayh also affirmed the quality of treatment found at KPJ Ampang Puteri Specialist Hospital by recalling an incident when their daughter had to have her wisdom tooth extracted. “She (the daughter) was very nervous about the whole procedure, but the nurses and dentist were very friendly, and patient, and they explained to her what was going to happen, step-by-step, and that made it more pleasant and hassle-free.

”“Whenever any one of us is unwell, we go to KPJ Ampang

Puteri Specialist Hospital and we have always received only the best treatment there. Ultimately, medical services aside, one of the most important aspects which make a good hospital great, is the care that is given and we can

see that in KPJ Ampang Puteri Specialist Hospital.

Care From The StartAkiko Yokokawa and Yuina When Japanese expatriate Akiko Yokokawa was looking for a Malaysian hospital to give birth to her second child, she found herself spoilt for choice. After consulting a friend – who had only recently given birth herself – Akiko was convinced that KPJ Damansara Specialist Hospital would be the best place to bring a new life into the world… and it was a decision which she has had absolutely no regrets making. Recalling her experience at the Premier Ward in the hospital, she said, “The room was very nice, and I didn’t feel like I was in a hospital at all. The ambience, and the people made me feel relaxed and that made giving birth so much easier.”

Giving credit to her Obstetrics and Gynaecology and the nursing team who looked after her during her labour and post-natal confinement period, Akiko was also full of praise for the in-house Japanese translator – coincidentally named Akiko. “Having someone there who could speak Japanese was very useful, because I could communicate my needs and wants effectively. I want to congratulate KPJ for coming up with such services for their foreign patients, and it shows that it is truly an organisation that cares,” she expressed firmly.

Akiko

I can say that KPJ Damansara Specialist Hospital is as good, if not

better, than many of the hospitals we have back home in Japan. Since I left after giving birth, I’ve brought Yuina

back here for her vaccinations, and my family – my husband and son included

– have also come here for treatment when we are not feeling well.

Care Through GenerationsPrince Olawale Suleiman Ayinla and Ishaq Okikiola AyinlaIronic as it may seem, Prince Olawale Suleiman Ayinla’s first encounter with a KPJ hospital was a result of a misdiagnosis, when he was warded in KPJ Selangor Specialist Hospital on the suspicion of having dengue (fortunately, it was just a severe viral infection). Having long been told about the superb service and care at KPJ hospitals, the opportunity to experience it himself was the catalyst for Olawale. “I was very impressed by the efficiency of the specialists and staff at the hospital, and the diligence and care they had for their patients.”

So much so that he started taking his four-year old son Ishaq to KPJ Selangor Specialist Hospital. “As a father, I want the best for my child, and I know – as far as medical treatment is concerned – there are few if any healthcare providers better than KPJ,” he affirmed. Not only that, the Nigerian national has become such a fan of KPJ, he has even become an ambassador for it, and has sung its praises to government officials in his home state of Lagos.

Olawale

I always tell my friends back home about how good KPJ Selangor

Specialist Hospital services are, and I ask them, ‘Why go to America

or Europe for treatment? Come to Malaysia. Come to KPJ Selangor Specialist Hospital, and you will receive excellent treatment from people who truly care for you.

Care That Can Be TrustedOsama, Zeinab and Neima Izzeldin“To know Malaysia is to love Malaysia”, so the old song goes, and Sudanese Osama Izzeldin, grew so fond of the country during his time studying at Multimedia University in Malacca that he decided to settle down here, founding his own travel agency, Costa Travels & Tours, in Kuala Lumpur. Osama is a patron of KPJ Ampang Puteri Specialist Hospital and is full of praise for its highly experienced doctors as well as its friendly and supportive nurses and staff. In fact, he’s so impressed by the hospital that he has also recommended it to his clients, and calls it “his way of giving back to the country that I now call home.”

As a responsible elder brother, Osama also takes his younger sisters – Neima and Zainab, who are both students at KDU International College – to KPJ Ampang Puteri Specialist Hospital whenever they need medical attention. “In my line of business,” he said, “I show the best things about Malaysia to people, and for me KPJ Ampang Puteri Specialist Hospital is among the best. That’s why I trust it with my health and well-being, as well as that of my family, friends and clients.”

Being a student without my own means of transport, I

really like KPJ Ampang Puteri Specialist Hospital because it is

so accessible. But that’s not all of course! The doctors and nurses

are really friendly, and whenever I am not feeling well, I go there because I know that the positive atmosphere puts me halfway on

the road to being cured.

Zeinab”

KPJ Book_patient testimony.indd 126 4/4/12 3:02 PM

I have a lot of Muslim clients from overseas, and I tell them to look out for KPJ hospitals if they ever need medical

attention. I’ve experienced the wonderful service at KPJ Ampang Puteri Specialist Hospital, and I know that their medical

treatments are in line with Islamic practices, so that makes it easier for us. What’s more, they also have interpreters who can speak in Arabic, and that is a

great help for a lot of my clients.

”Osama

I once had this terrible pain and all the doctors just gave me painkillers, until my brother took me to KPJ Ampang Puteri Specialist Hospital and the

doctor took the time to go through my case. After some tests, he found out it was a kidney infection. So I am really grateful to him for really getting to

the bottom of the matter, and thanks to that a potentially life-threatening

problem was nipped in the bud.
