Today’s floral arrangements are given by Tom and Eleanor Charles to the glory of God and in loving memory of their parents.

Consider giving the flowers for Sunday worship to remember or honor loved ones or to celebrate an event, while expressing praise and thanksgiving to God. Please contact Linda Watson during business hours at 302-571-6719 or [email protected]. Dates available for flowers are May 1, 29 and June 5, 26. Worship Resources – You may obtain large print hymnals and hearing devices from any usher. Worship bags for children ages 3-6 and Kids’ Notes for ages 7-12 are available from the ushers. Kids’ Notes emphasize listening and seeing during worship. Are you wearing a nametag? Whether you are a long-time member or new to the church, wearing a nametag provides others the opportunity to meet you, greet you by name, and for you to become more familiar with others at church. You will find nametags and markers in baskets at all major entrances.

Please remember in your prayers:

Those recently hospitalized: Carolyn McKeown, Polly McPheeters.

Iraq and Afghanistan often seem far away, and we may neglect to realize that Americans, as well as Iraqis, Afghans and members of coalition forces, continue to die. As Christians, we are called to pray for the spreading of peace and justice and an end to violence. If someone in your family is serving in the military, please let us know, so that we may include that person on our prayer list. Contact Colleen Falasco: 302-654-5214 ext. 131, or [email protected]. EASTER SUNDAY

ORDER OF WORSHIP TOWER CHIME PRELUDE MUSIC

(Trumpets) Fanfare for a Festive Occasion James Olcott

(Organ) Toccata in G major Théodore Dubois CALL TO WORSHIP

Death has lost its stranglehold! Christ is alive! Christ is risen! He is risen indeed!

*HYMN NO. 122 “Thine Is the Glory” JUDAS MACCABEUS Note: The refrain is sung after each verse arr. Domecq Smith

PRAYER OF PRAISE

Eternal God, the world is constantly hurling darkness our way: wars drag on endlessly, illnesses cut lives short, sparks of violence flare in our community and your creation is under assault. If it were not for our faith we would turn cynical, and if it were not for your love we would surrender to despair. Living Lord, we give thanks for the promise of Easter that death does not have the final word. We rejoice in Christ’s resurrection that nothing can separate us from you. Help us to embrace your promise of new life so that we can live each day in hope and in joy. Amen.

*HYMN “All People That on Earth Do Dwell” OLD HUNDREDTH arr. Ralph Vaughan Williams All All people that on earth do dwell, Sing to the Lord with cheerful voice; Him serve with fear, his praise forth tell, Come ye before him, and rejoice.

The Lord, ye know, is God indeed, Without our aid he did us make; We are his folk, he doth us feed, And for his sheep he doth us take.

Choir O enter then his gates with praise, Approach with joy his courts unto; Praise, laud, and bless his name always, For it is seemly so to do.

5

For why? the Lord our God is good: His mercy is forever sure; His truth at all time firmly stood, And shall from age to age endure.

All To Father, Son, and Holy Ghost, The God whom heav’n and earth adore, From mortals and from angel host Be praise and glory evermore.

Westminster By Heart TIME WITH OUR CHILDREN Anne Ledbetter ANTHEM Praises for the Risen Christ Gilbert M. Martin

Alleluia! Now Christ is risen from the dead! O death, where is thy sting? O grave, where is thy victory?

The strife is over, the battle done; Now is the victor’s triumph won; Now be the song of praise begun. The powers of death have done their worst, But Christ their legions hath dispersed; Let shouts of holy joy outburst. The three sad days have quickly sped, He rises glorious from the dead: All glory to our risen Head!

SERMON “The Unfinished Symphony” Greg Jones

*HYMN “Christ the Lord Is Risen Today!” EASTER HYMN

arr. John Ness Beck Choir Why weepest thou? Whom seekest thou? He is not here, for He is risen!

(Organ/Brass interlude)

All Christ the Lord is ris’n today, Alleluia! All creation join to say; Alleluia! Raise your joys and triumphs high; Alleluia! Sing, ye heav’ns, and earth reply, Alleluia! Lives again our glorious King: Alleluia! Where, O death, is now thy sting? Alleluia! Once He died our souls to save; Alleluia! Where thy victory, O grave? Alleluia! Soar we now where Christ hath led, Alleluia! Following our exalted Head; Alleluia! Made like Him, like Him we rise, Alleluia! Ours the cross, the grave, the skies. Alleluia!

*AFFIRMATION OF FAITH

We trust in Jesus Christ, God with us in human flesh, who proclaimed the reign of God. He preached good news to the poor and release to the captives; He healed the sick and ate with outcasts; He forgave sinners and called all people to repent and believe. Condemned for blasphemy and sedition, Jesus was crucified. But God raised him from the dead, vindicating his life, breaking the power of sin and evil, and delivering us from death to eternal life. A Brief Statement of Faith, PCUSA
