This booklet lists all the services that are available in the Western Bay (Swansea, Neath Port Talbot and Bridgend) area for people/carers/family members who have experienced or been affected by substance misuse. There are a variety of services provided from assessment; talking therapy and prescribing services.

ABMU Alcohol and Drug Assessment Service
ABMU Alcohol and Drug Assessment Service (AADAS) offers an holistic assessment to new clients, enabling a referral to the services best suited to the individual’s needs. There are “Open Access” clinics throughout the region which people can attend without the need to be referred. It is the first point of access to NEWID services for anyone over 18.

Rehab Applications
In some circumstances, service users can be referred for a rehabilitation assessment. The assessment will determine whether the individual’s needs can be met in the community but, when successful, this will typically lead to clients attending a residential rehabilitation centre.

The Community Drug and Alcohol Team is an NHS service. CDAT offer medical, psychological and other forms of help for people with alcohol and drug problems.

DASH
DASH has promoted accessibility outside school hours and outside of Bridgend Town Centre providing one to one support, advice and information on substance misuse, sexual health, education, social and family issues with further counselling offered on the basis of need.

DrugAid / Choices
DrugAid provides a wide range of services for anyone directly and indirectly affected by drugs and / or alcohol.We provide information and advice, one to one support, counselling, group work and diversionary activities. We also give up to date information, workshops and training to anyone who wants to learn more about drug and alcohol related issues.

No appointment necessary – client can just drop in for advice and sup-port.
Housing / Benefit Assistance
Help4Housing – staffed by Tenancy Support Staff available to all clients every Wednesday afternoon 1 – 3pm. No appointment needed. Help on housing / benefit matters.
Acupuncture Auricular acupuncture offered every day when Drop In is open.
Reflexology Reflexology of the feet offered Thursday mornings (during Women’s morning – men by appointment only).
Needle Exchange Provision of clean and sterile drug paraphernalia and practical support and advice. No appointment needed.
U 25’s based @ 47 Kingsway provision of clean and sterile drug paraphernalia and practical support and advice. No appointment needed.
Health services (general nurses)
Offered various days (usually Tuesday afternoons) with no appointment needed. Advice, vaccinations, Prenoxad prescriptions. Check ahead for specific days as extra days often available.
Dry Blood Spot Testing
Available every day to test for Hep C, Hep B and HIV. No appointment needed.

Various activities running every day, such as walking, cooking, art, geocaching. Call or drop in to find out what is on and what’s coming up.
SMART Recovery A self help group, helping people recover from addictive behaviour and lead meaningful and satisfying lives.
1-2-1 Key working Working with clients to help them achieve their goals, be it harm reduction or abstinence.
Swansea C-Card Scheme
Provides a safe place to talk about relationships, sexual health information and advice and get free condoms (You may need to prove your age using a PASS logo ID card or passport).
Surf’s up! Internet and WIFI access.
RAY Is a domestic abuse prevention, awareness and support project for children and young people aged 8-25 living in Swansea and has been in operation since 2008. It is run by City and County of Swansea. The project supports the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child and also the Welsh Assembly Government’s 7 Core Aims for Children and Young People.
Keeping safe Drugs/alcohol/sex/relationship/internet safety.
The Exchange Counselling Service
We offer free and confidential counselling service for young people aged 11-25 provided by The Exchange Counselling Service. We have counsellors with us throughout the week. Young people can arrange appointment with the counsellor themselves or with the help of school, college, support workers, parents or guardians.

PSALT
PSALT is a Primary Care NHS service providing Support and substitute prescribing for patients who are opiate dependant and live in the Swansea area. The PSALT service caters for opiate dependant people, aged 18 and over who do not have any significant mental or physical health concerns. To access treatment patients should go to AADAS who will refer them in to the PSALT programme.

Welsh Centre for Action on Dependency and Addiction help prevent, reduce, and treat the harm caused by alcohol and drugs to individuals, their families and the wider community. We offer a wide variety of information and support regarding alcohol and drugs to people of all ages. Psychosocial one-to-one interventions

A range of service user led psychosocial interventions focussing on recovery. One-to-one support is available to help individuals work towards their goals, whatever they may be. Support may include:
• Assessment review• Risk assessment and management including Safeguarding• Care planning including monitoring and review• Liaison work, for example, with primary care, social services
and mental health service providers• Discharge planning and management• Pre and post detoxification/residential rehabilitation support• Relapse prevention• Referral to self-help groups• Advice and information• Regular support as agreed in care plans• Structured counselling sessions provided by qualified

Community Support and Outreach, including Specialist Older Persons Service in Neath Port Talbot

Specialist outreach support to improve relationships and outcomes for those who are unable to leave their home. Support may include:
• Advice to improve social and domestic skills• Emotional support and assistance in accessing local community
services such as housing, health services, and counselling• Liaising with other service providers such as community mental
health teams, GPs and other health professionals, probation service, social services, welfare advisors and legal services
• Assistance and support in accessing training, education and employment opportunities
• Advice on accessing appropriate childcare• Supporting service users to achieve levels of independence and
improved self-care and to help alleviate social isolation• Transport for service users to access appointments

Group work
(Accessed following assessment at AADAS)
WCADA offer a variety of groups available for service users at all stages in their recovery. Groups which run throughout the year include:
• Alcohol and Drug Awareness Group – an eleven week educational group providing factual information on the effects of alcohol and drugs on individuals, families and the wider community, to help service users make informed choices about their recovery.
• Towards Recovery and Maintaining Recovery – weekly peer led support groups for service users wanting to make positive changes in their recovery. Staff support is provided to the groups.
• Moving On In My Recovery – a twelve week peer support group. The weekly sessions cover issues such as getting ready to move on, lifestyle balance, mental wellbeing, anxiety, low mood, relapse, peer support, relationships, being me, loss, stigma and future goals.
Minnesota Model 12-Step treatment programme(often referred to as Primary Treatment)
(Accessed following assessment at AADAS)
Individuals accessing primary treatment work on the Minnesota model, which is the first five steps of the AA 12 Step programme. Individuals will attend weekly group therapy and weekly one-to-one key working/counselling sessions. (This programme can be delivered on a one-to-one basis only). The programme can help service users to understand themselves and their addiction; replacing old, unhelpful behaviours to develop positive ways of thinking so that they can lead a happy, fulfilling drug and alcohol free life. Treatment may not always be easy. It takes time, dedication and commitment but the recovery journey can be a rewarding one, where all areas of a person’s life can vastly improve. An eight week Pre Treatment Group is also available where service users will start to look at Step One of the programme.
Aftercare
(Accessed following assessment at AADAS)
Following completion of the Primary Treatment service users will receive on-going support through attending monthly Aftercare Groups. Through mutual support service users can explore the challenges that they may face as they put their new found skills into practice. As well as monthly group support, they will receive one to one sessions every six weeks.

Family Members and Carers Service

This service is available to those seeking support regarding someone else’s substance use. The service offers:• Information, advice and support• One-to-one support to help family members understand
substance use and associated behaviours to better cope with the stresses and strains that it can bring to family life
• Group work including peer support and the 12-Step programme for family members
• Referral to self-help groups
SWITCH Young Person’s Services
(Referrals can be made directly to WCADA via phone, email or by calling into one of our agencies)
The service is available to young people seeking support regarding their own or someone else’s substance use. The service offers:
Prevention and Education• Information and advice on safer use of alcohol and/or drugs• Prevention work (including delivery within education
establishments)• Support to address substance use related offending and anti-
social behaviour• Advice on sexual health services and safer sex• Outreach work to engage with hard to reach young people using
substances• Support to access other services including treatment where

Tenancy Support

Specialist outreach support to improve relationships and outcomes for the tenant. Those accessing the service can be supported with:
• Accessing appropriate accommodation, setting up and maintaining a home, paying rent and bills, and ensuring safety and security of the home
• Budgeting and debt advice including help with reducing debt, making benefit claims and developing personal financial management skills
• Advice on how to improve life, social and domestic skills• Emotional support and assistance in accessing local community
services such as health services, counselling and peer support• Liaison with other service providers such as alcohol and drug
services, community mental health teams, probation service, GP’s and other health professionals, welfare advisors and legal service
• Assistance and support in accessing training, education and employment opportunities
• Addressing and reducing offending and/or anti-social behaviour
DOMINO (Development of Motivation In New Outlooks) Therapeutic Recreation
(No appointment or referral required)
DOMINO is a programme of activities that support people at risk of substance misuse to lead better, healthier more active lives. We deliver various recreational activities, personal development sessions, and complimentary therapies in a relaxed and supportive environment. There are weekly timetables across the Western Bay area with activities including:

Cyfle Cymru

Cyfle Cymru is a service which helps people with substance misuse issues and/or mental health conditions into work, education or training. We offer:
• One-to-one guidance from a peer mentor who can draw on their own experience of substance misuse, recovery and/or mental health conditions
• Specialist employment support, including volunteering opportunities and help and advice on how to search and apply for jobs
The service is available for those aged 16-24 who are not in employment, education or training, and those aged 25 or over who are long-term unemployed or economically inactive.
REACH
(Referrals can be made via phone or by calling in to a WCADA agency)
The active inclusion REACH project can help individuals achieve nationally recognised qualifications and skills in an accessible and friendly environment that will enhance employment opportunities.The service is available to:
• Any individual aged 25 or over• Anyone who is long term unemployed• Any person who has a life limiting health condition• Anyone who has been affected by substance misuse• Participants must live outside a communities First area• Support can include:• Individual learning plans• Access to accredited courses in self-development • Transferable skills • Peer support from volunteers • Volunteering opportunities • Opportunities to build confidence and self-esteem • Opportunities to complete further study • Assistance with job searches when ready to look for work

Change Step/Listen In

Change Step is a peer mentoring and advice service delivered by veterans for veterans. The service is for:
• Military veterans• Former members of the emergency services• Trauma survivors• Their family members
The service aims to support those seeking help for problems encountered as a result of military or operational duty offering:
• Community based peer mentoring• Bespoke training opportunities • Signposting to detoxification and rehabilitation programmes• Signposting to mental health, wellbeing and other appropriate
services
Training and Volunteering Opportunities

All of our training is delivered in a relaxed environment where people can feel at ease to ask any questions that they may have. Courses are delivered by qualified trainers who are also practitioners with current first-hand knowledge of the topic that they are delivering. Our training is quality assured and can be accredited through Agored Cymru. Sessions can also be tailored to suit organisational needs. Training topics can include:

WCADA also offer volunteering opportunities. Volunteers are supported to complete our Accredited Volunteer Training Programme: an 11-week course which is delivered twice each year. There are lots of benefits to volunteering including:
