SERVICE MATTERS

We are sharing with you an experience of commissioning TSI (TURBO SUPERVISORY INSTRUMENTATION) (R&M), supplied through Siemens. Since it was rst such installation being done by us for NTPC, Korba, their C&I team had lot of expectations from us.

It was a challenging task to complete this commissioning in a stipulated time. Tasks covered are

1. Installation of brackets for turbine, TDBFP 2. Installation of mounting pads in VMS3. Loop testing4. Calibration & Demo of TSI sensors5. Installation and commissioning of analysis packages

As a natural process, we took this opportunity to demonstrate complete systems and provide hands on training for NTPC ofcials. The customer appreciated this whole activity done at site. We had also supplied a similar package to NTPC Korba for Stage 1, which also was an R&M job recieved through BHEL. In this case also we could successfully complete the task to the satisfaction of BHEL & NTPC.

Vibration Monitoring System - VM7 Opacity / Dust Monitor - DCEM2100

We would like to share a success story of one of the installation of Dust analysers for an Alumina company. This is installed at a stack where 3 kiln are rooted to one common stack. After following proper commissioning practises, the analyser was commissioned successfully.

For proper functioning of dust analyser, we need to ensure that isokinetic sampling is done, which plays a very vital role. This is required to derive actual weight of dust getting emitted. In this case, isokinetic sampling was done by the user on their own and readings were shared with us. Looking at the variations in the readings between analyser and sampling results, our technical expert visited site. Our rst observation was; the stack inner diameter was 2.5 meters whereas sampling was carried out at 1.5 meters with the duration of 15 minutes. As per velocity (7m/sec) with ow of 20 (litr/min) sampling was to be done with the duration of 45 minutes. As dust ow is never laminar dust loading could differ at different points across the cross sectional area.

We insisted to carry out this sampling at different traverse points to nd out the actual dust concentration at different points at both the ends, so that we get 20 different points to have a correct dust factor. This procedure is recommended by Pollution Control Board and is followed by all the agencies conducting isokinetic sampling. So, the issue here was more of educating the users rather than performance of the instrument.

Our solution worked & the problem was sorted out.
