Position Description

Volunteers for the EP Art Center (EPAC) help to educate the public about our programs, set-up, run, and tear down arts-based projects at events, assist teaching artists with studio tech or classroom work, or assist with general day-to-day tasks at the center.

There are several opportunities for volunteers to complete their service-learning requirement with the EPAC. Please see below for the various options we have for winter and spring 2020.

• Ceramic Studio Tech assistance- help EPAC’s studio tech with the basic functions of our clay studio including but not limited to: underglazing, glazing, learn and assist with firing pieces in our electric kilns, package work for pick-up, etc. The schedule would be coordinated based on student and studio tech availability/needs. Hours would include an orientation to the center and then working directly with our studio tech. Volunteers should have basic experience in ceramics for this position. • Fused Glass Firing assistance- help EPAC’s glass instructors with the basic functions of our glass studio including but not limited to: full fuse firing, tack fuse firing, slump firing, and/or annealing, package work for pick-up, etc. The schedule would be coordinated based on student and staff availability/needs. Hours would include an orientation to the center and then working directly with instructors. Volunteers should have basic experience in glass for this position.

• Class/workshop Assistant- assist an instructor for an Art Center class/workshop and gain valuable experience in how to run a class, work with supplies, etc. We have a variety of classes and based on volunteer’s experience and schedule, can coordinate specific classes/workshops to fulfill the 10 hours.

• Art Center Open House for Youth event- This is a fun event where we welcome people into our space to meet our teaching artists, make art, and have a great time! Volunteers assist a teaching artist in a hands-on art project for visitors. Possible projects include clay tiles, screen printing, collage, etc. This event is Saturday, April 18 from 1 – 4 pm. It is most helpful if volunteers are able to help with set-up at 12 pm through tear down ending at about 5 – 5:30 p.m. plus an hour of orientation at the EPAC that week. If additional hours are need for 10-hour requirement, we can work that out on an individual basis.

Overall expectations for volunteers is that they arrive to any scheduled shift on time, are timely with any communications, be prepared to work and work well with others, help out where needed and be pro-active when they can, be friendly and courteous with the public, and have fun.

How to Apply • Complete the EPAC Volunteer Application Form online: https://tinyurl.com/EPArtCenter • Questions? Email Jes Schrom, EPAC Supervisor at [email protected] or call the EPAC at 952-949-8304.

Caponi Art Park Agency Description Caponi Art Park, located on 60-acres of rolling, wooded hills that are embedded with art in Eagan, Minnesota, is a distinctive community space offering cultural and educational experiences in an inviting, natural setting. Designed as a single, unified work of art the meandering trails follow the topography of the grounds like contour drawings animated by everyone who walks them, and the rock walls and shaped hills are the sculpture into which conventional works are integrated. The Park has miles of walking paths, a sculpture garden, outdoor amphitheater — the Theater in the Woods — as well as spaces for reflection and relaxation. Experiencing the Park is, in a sense, Caponi Art Park’s primary program. Position Description Students will help in a variety of administration tasks and tasks that arise through out the work day. Task range from talking to park visitors, assisting in program creation/implementation, to grounds work and emergency weather damage repair. This will be a great way to experiences the chaotic nature of small arts organizations and learn what it takes to be flexible and self motivated. Park staff is in office 9-5 during the week. Students will talk to staff to find the best time during the week that fits within everyone’s schedules. How to Apply Email, Steven Read [email protected]
