a note from founding member james asciak I formed Wild Rumpus Community Services back in 2012 in a hope to provide a range of innovative services for children and young people who have additional needs. I thought it was important for young people to have more opportunities to spend time with their peers and be able to meaningfully participate in their community.

2014 was a huge year for Wild Rumpus – the number of participants wanting to access our programs grew enormously, and a dynamic multidisciplinary team was formed. We have overcome obstacles, and proven ourselves in an already established marketplace to lead the next generation of disability service providers in the Barwon region. We are enjoying being creative and dreaming up programs which provide people with disability more unique opportunities to help achieve their goals.

I am extremely proud of the programs we offer, and hope they positively enrich the lives of the families we support.

'Rumplings' has a focus on developing skills and providing younger children with opportunities in the community to build social awareness. This is a great introduction to disability services, taking those vital early steps to achieve long-term goals. We create fun learning experiences, where

2

young children can start to form friendships during weekends.

We rehearse going to new environments and practicing social situations – because having additional needs shouldn't mean you miss out.

weekends

1

'Rumpus Weekends' provide group-based day-activities and overnight camps. They are ideal for children and young people who are eager to have new adventures in the community with friends.

2

Too often children spend all weekend with parents, or engaged in isolating 1:1 respite with a carer. We want to see people with disabilities forming friendships and having fun – 'Rumpus Weekends' have been designed to do exactly this.

independent living skills for young people with additional needs

forwardliving

We understand that a major goal for most young people is to develop skills to use into adulthood and transition to a more independent life. We provide a program providing measurable capacity building goals – a key component is learning safety skills around the home and in the community. We learn self-defense skills, fire safety skills, and support participants to make safe choices. Nondays 9AN-3PN

occupational Occupational Therapy (OT) provides children

with the ability to be an active participant in their own lives. OT can assist your child to become more independent in self-care tasks (eating, dressing, washing etc), self-regulation, sensory processing, motor skill development and being an active play member

We provide a range of OT supports, including: • Individual Occupational Therapy –

providing support based on developmental goals - gross and fine motor skills, sensory processing difficulties, etc.

• Group-based play program – strengthening active play skills, learning about social interaction during play, developing imagination skills.

• Transition to school program – helping young children reduce stress and anxiety related to starting school through an integrated approach and promoting a positive school environment.

We have 3 registered Occupational Therapists (Tayla Dodds, Nicole Williams & Erin Hammond), with a passion for supporting the needs of children and young people.

Finding and managing the right supports for your needs can be a struggle – especially when caring for a child with additional needs. We provide assistance to coordinate services to help get the most out of your supports.

We can contact service providers so you don't have to do the running around – and help support you through the more challenging times.

Our case managers have extensive experience supporting families with children with additional needs.

We provide service coordination and planning for young people aged 16-19 years who are making the transition from high school to the next stage of their lives. Young people now have more choice as they enter adulthood, whether it be work, study, or programs to actively contribute in the community. Our ForwardPlanning worker has a great understanding of the options for young people and will actively support you to transition to an adulthood that meets your needs and interests.
