Description:Effective with unit number 63276, MCI made design changes to the fan belt tensioner installation. This design change,which provides a more robust tensioner, will improve the reliability and performance of the fan belt and A/C tensionerinstallation.

Service Information:1. Old and new parts are interchangeable.2. Both old and new parts will be available for service replacement.
Service Procedure:General notesRead this entire procedure before beginning work.Use Safe Shop Practices At All Times.
1. Turn the main battery disconnect switch to the OFF position. Chock both sides of the tires.2. Open the rear, side service compartment door and pull the rear engine service compartment door releaselever. Open the rear engine service compartment door. Position the ENG RUN and ENG START switcheson the remote electrical control panel to the OFF position.
3. Remove bumper. Place aside to be re-installed at a later step in this procedure.4. Loosen the belt tensioner jam nuts and relax the fan belt and A/C belt tensioner. Remove fan belt and A/Cbelt. Remove and discard existing belt tensioner link.
5. Remove and retain the capscrew and nut from the fan clutch mount bracket assembly. Remove the fanclutch mount bracket assembly.
6. Carefully remove and discard existing bushings from fan clutch mount bracket assembly.

7. Press fit the new bushings ( part number 06-06-1184 ) into the fan clutch mount bracket assembly using a1 3/4 inch driver.
8. Re-install the fan clutch mount bracket assembly, using the capscrew and nut removed in Step 5.Torque nut to 94 ft.-lbs.

NOTEUse a drill stop to prevent damage to coach components when drilling.
9. The existing inboard tensioner mounting holes will require modification.a. On S60 equipped coaches: using a 41/64 inch drill bit, drill out the existing holes in the location Ashown in Figure 2.
b. On C13 equipped coaches: using a 35/64 inch drill bit, drill out the existing holes in the location Ashown in Figure 2. Tap the hole using a 5/8---18 UNF tap.
NOTEUse a bottoming tap as required.
c. Using a 41/64 inch drill bit, drill out the existing holes in the location B shown in Figure 2.

10. Install the fan belt and A/C belt tensioner as per Figures 3 to 6.a. On S60 equipped coaches: torque nut to 138---166 ft.-lbs. ( Location A )b. On C13 equipped coaches: torque capscrew to 132---160 ft.-lbs. ( Location A )c. Torque nut to 138---166 ft.-lbs. ( Location B )

PAGEDATE 6AUG. 30, 2005Service Bulletin No. 291211. Tension the fan drive and A/C belts to the deflections outlined on the decal located inside of the enginedoor.
12. When the belt is properly tensioned, tighten the jam nuts.13. Place a straight edge across the face of the crankshaft pulley. If required, adjust the fore/aft position of thefan clutch to achieve proper alignment between the crankshaft pulley and the face of the fan clutch ( Figure7 ).
14. Place a straight edge across the face of the fan clutch only. Visually inspect to ensure that the distancebetween the straight edge and the belt is consistent along the length of the belt. If required, adjust the fanclutch.
15. Re--- inspect the fore/aft position and alignment of the fan clutch per Steps 13. and 14.

16. Re-install the bumper.17. Position the ENG RUN and ENG START switches to the ON position. Close the rear, side servicecompartment and rear engine service compartment doors.
NOTECheck and adjust belts after 200 miles ( 300 km ) and again after 2,000 miles ( 3,000 km ).
Procedure complete.
