So, if you see us in a

even seeing a race night

free to support the

bit to try and help us

News of these fundraising

Whilst we are searching

for a suitable sponsor for

our ever growing club, we

are going to need to buy a

new kit for our teams next

season. With various kits

being borrowed, some

reasonably good quality

from Oriel School and

others that were excellent

kits when made 20 years

ago, we are in desperate

need of a kit that makes

us look and feel the part

as we continue to grow

over the next few years.

As a result of this need, in

addition to the

sponsorship search, you

will hopefully see GYGVC

website, twitter and

facebook pages and also

on posters around the

community.

If you have any ideas

about how we could raise

funds, if you want to help

or even offer some form of

sponsorship please

contact the club.

sponsors

GYGVC are looking for a company or business that would be interested in helping us to fulfil our potential as a club. In return, aside from the knowledge that you have given something back to the community we would do all we could as a club to help promote your business, including carrying your logos on our playing kits, banners and publications, dedicating this part of our newsletter as 'Our Sponsors News' and also creating a page on our website for you. We are also looking to help advertise other companies who may be interested in purchasing advertising space on our new kit.

The last thing that the club

really needs to purchase

to get us on the way to

fulfilling our potential is a

club kit. We are aiming to

purchase a kit that can be

identical for all age group

and gender teams. For

this reason we are going

to purchase a made to

order Panzeri kit from

sportset.com. This allows

us to have the colours in

any way we want, a

matching men's and

women's kit and also

having all logos and

numbers embedded into

the kit rather than printed

onto it meaning the life of

the kit will be much longer.

Our push for sponsorship

now is to get any partners

logos on our kit before we

have it designed, giving

freedom over where and

how many logos we have

on the kit.

Plans for the new playing kit.

The kit below is an idea of the design

of the women's kit. The men’s is very

similar just a different fitting style. The

image on the right is an example of a

made kit showing sponsorship

possibilities.

Over the Whitsun half

term holiday, seven junior

members of GYGVC took

part in the filming of a

DVD to help promote

volleyball as part of the

government’s new

‘Change 4 Life’ sports club

scheme.

The scheme aims to set

up 3000 new after school

clubs focusing on Olympic

and Paralympic sports.

Volleyball is one of the

sports that can be chosen.

Volleyball England have

begun to make a DVD to

show how simple it can be

to set up a volleyball club

for young people. They

wanted young

volleyballers to take part

in some games and

activities as well as

interviews to go onto this

DVD which will be sent to

around 450 schools

nationwide.

combination of East

complacency and South

West confidence saw them

draw level before just

clinching the third set

meaning East U14 A team

and Krista had finished in a

credible 6th place.

Meanwhile in an eerily

close U16 division where

any one of 4 teams could

have qualified for the final

on the Sunday, Becky

started in the first 6 for

East whilst Chloe and

Jodie took up places on the

Bench. East lost their first

and only group game to

South East which

prompted changes to the

starting 6. Now GYGVC

had two members on court

with Becky holding her

place and Chloe joining

her. This formula saw the

girls go undefeated for the

rest of the pool, even

beating favourites South

West. By the end of the

pool games Chloe had

claimed her place in the

starting side and Jodie had

managed a couple of very

solid cameos.

Sunday saw a calculator

Since first drafting this

quarters newsletter the four

girls from the club who were

selected to represent the

East of England at the

Interregional Championships

have had their first

experience of the elite junior

national competition. All four

girls got court time and gave

a good account of

themselves on the way to

helping their teams to good

finishing positions.

Krista played all weekend for

the U14 A team and grew in

confidence as the weekend

went on. The team had

mixed results on the

Saturday beating the South

West and East Midlands but

losing to North West and also

to London in a game that

was about as close as it

could possibly be. The loss

to London saw London head

into the semi-finals instead of

East. On Sunday the girls

beat South East with ease in

their playoff game, meaning

they would fact the South

West team they had beaten

on Saturday in a 5th/6th

place playoff. After strolling

to a first set win, a

make the decision that East

would playoff for 3rd/4th

place with the team they lost

to the previous day- South

East. Unfortunately, the

result repeated itself, with

South East winning 2-1 and

confirming a still very

credible 4th place finish for

East of England U16 girls.

All four GYGVC members

should be very proud of

themselves and can look

forward to progressing and

cementing their places next

season.

NEWS FLASH - East of England Success at

Inter Regional Champs

GYGVC becomes East: Chloe

makes an important pass under

pressure against the West Mid-

lands.

Great Yarmouth and Gorleston Volleyball Club was set up in April 2009 to take advantage of the sudden upsurge in young people playing the sport in local schools. With school volleyball clubs running at Oriel and Lynn Grove schools, and with sports unlimited volleyball courses taking place at Cliff Park and Caister High Schools the sport's profile in the area has grown rapidly since its reintroduction in September ‘08. Starting with just enough adults to form a committee and a handful of young members, the club has now- 14 months on- grown to have 100 members. Many train sporadically due to shift commitments but the club has around 45 youngsters training weekly and around 25 adults. The club plays in local and regional competitions all year round and our junior teams also compete in the national junior cups.

The club continues to grow in size and stature every week and is always welcoming to new players regardless of age, gender and experience.

Sport

England

GYGVC has been able to build upon it’s strong start and grow this year due to two grants that we received at the beginning of the season. These allowed us to purchase all the necessary training equipment to cater for both young and adult members. The club is now set up with good equipment for the next few years. We would like to take this opportunity to thank the two organisations who granted us funds to be able to do this.

Sport England granted us around £3000 to get the club up and running. The majority of this was spent on a net system and balls for the adult session, but also helped to subsidise transport and club clothing.

O2 ‘It’s your community’ award granted us £775, a lot of this went on funding equipment for the junior sessions, including balls, ball carts and warm up kits.

A big thank you to

both organisations
