Revised 2019 Fund Raiser Summary September 2019 $3,040.00 October 2019 $7,110.00 Total Funds Collected $10,150.00 Food Expenses (Moncla’s) $5,000.00 Other Expenses (Mary) $26.75 Other Expenses (John) $137.43 Total Expenses $5,164.18 2019 Net Funds Collected $4,985.82 2018 Net Funds Collected $5,163.47 The Annual Fund Raiser net funds were $180 behind last year, but

Serra did well. Eventually Serra will have to figure out how to spend excess funds and what is affordable on an annual basis. John discussed how Fr. Tino is thinking of other potential causes to

support There was discussion on putting more brochures in churches. Other Serra ministries in the district may have 60 members, but all are from one church. In Beaumont there are several churches. Richard discussed plans to start a vocations committee at St. Anne. He said Father Manger was interested. John discussed attending parish council meetings and introducing what Serra wants to do. Richard suggested a program reaching high school students. John talked about the Called by Name Program. Sara said to plant the seed younger and have a talk once per year for

7th and 8th grade students as other schools have done.

Programs: Appreciation Dinner The Appreciation Dinner is scheduled for February 13, 2020, at Culotta Hall. The social is at 6:30 pm and dinner is at 7:00 pm. In 2017 the cost of tickets was $20. In 2018, it was $25. We had enough money to cover it. Increased funds provided a more expensive meal. In 2019, it was $17 a plate. Pat suggested making the dinner a banquet to express appreciation to the priests by providing a dinner they would not normally have.

Suggestion from Mary: Dinner

chicken and sausage gumbo from Courville’s potato salad and garlic bread

Appetizers for cocktail hour: (e.g. hot boudain dip on creole cracker Texas caviar salad (black eye peas and cilantro served in tortilla scoops) crawfish cornbread bites shrimp stuffed celery sticks Dessert creole bread pudding or peach cobbler The Board discussed getting quotes from Moncla’s and Courville’s at $20 per meal. They will also get a quote on gumbo and rice at Cour-

ville’s for 120 people. Angel donations will again be saught. Any prior year donations will

help defray the higher meal cost and gifts. Angel funds are to be noted as a reserve, not general funds.

Pat will purge from the angels list of prospective angels the names of individuals who have not participated in 3 years. Richard asked if the list of prospective angels will be sent out for review. Pat will send it after revising the list.

Sara suggested going back to the Mardi Gras theme. Mardi Gras is the last Tuesday of the month. Also, Serra can underwrite the gift cards, evaluate going up to $50 on gift cards instead of $25.

Discussions for entertainment were Newman Center choir and Kelly students new choir, but hi schoolers cannot be used due to alcohol presence. Vic said to check the age requirement as it may be age 21, which would affect some Newman Center students.

John will send an email regarding the Christmas Party. Vic said Houston’s mail center got wiped out in Imelda. Mail goes

through Dallas. It may take 3 weeks for mail to get there. Programs: November 3 – 9, 2019- National Vocations Awareness Week November 21, 2019 – Liturgical Season: Advent John will not be present for the November 21 meeting. Ailene will

not be present either. Sara will contact Mary about food. Kitty will do the presentation. Richard will get the key for Holub Hall.

Vocations: Adopt a Seminarian

Two individuals left the Seminary.

The last seminarian in the Adopt program is, Enrique Colunga at the SVD Seminary in Techny, IL. Kitty received this infor-mation from the secretary at Colunga’s home parish, Im-maculate Conception in Liberty.

Bill Gier asked if non-Serrans could adopt Seminarians. The

Board discussed telling them to work through Father Tino.

According to Sister Misty Garriga there are no other non-professed sisters in the convent.

Vic and Sara discussed a new brother.

Kitty said Mary talked to Will. They would really like gift cards

from Wal-mart, Amazon, Visa, etc. On visa they can go eat. At Wal-mart they can buy items they need. And they can order books from Amazon. Vic said a Visa card will take care of all of those.

The Seminarians drew a design for polo shirts. Serra is waiting

for an update on the design. 31 Club (praying for priests for past, present, and future)

A Prayer for Priestly Vocations

O Lord, my God, You renew the Church in every age by raising up priests outstanding in holiness, living witnesses of Your unchanging Love. In Your Plan for our salvation You provide shepherds for Your people. Fill the hearts of young men with the spirit of courage and love that they may answer Your call generously. Give parents the grace to encourage vocations in their fam-ily by prayer and good example. Raise up worthy priests for Your Altars and ardent, but gentle servants of the Gospel. Give the Church more priests and keep them faithful in their love and service. May many young men choose to serve You by devoting themselves to the service of Your people.

President’s Comments

Welcome to the Christmas Season. It’s time to fill your soul with Christmas cheers and love. Christmas happens in the winter so that people can share the warmth of love and make every soul peaceful and caring. This Christmas, rebuild your faith and make it stronger than before and prove that love can change the world. Peace and good will to you and your loved ones this Christmas season. As we celebrate the birth of our Lord, pray that the light of kindness and hope remain in you so that you will never tire of being selfless and brave. It is not only the day itself that is magical, it is the small things like everyone gathering under the tree to open gifts or having a feast and the simple gesture of wishing each one a very merry Christmas. Keep faith, hope and love in your heart, and you will hold the spirit of Christmas. May you have a great holiday season and an amazing 12 months. Have lots of Christmas cheers, and a Happy New Year! God Bless
