Club Events in the 4th Quarter 2017 5 th Annual Cookout with Priests – October 1 Beautiful weather, good food and drinks, and camaraderie were enjoyed by 44 Serrans and guests and 8 priests at the St Jude rectory. Carl McClelland, Fr. Steve Banet (host), Joe Dwenger Mass for Vocations – October 11 12 Serrans attended an all-school Mass at St Malachy in Brownsburg. Pastor Fr Vince Lampert was the celebrant. Serran Rick Rader spoke to the students and congregation about vocations. About 10 parishioners joined Serrans for a coffee and donut social following Mass. Board Meeting – October 18 A night of reflection is being planned in place of a regular dinner meeting on February 26, 2018. Club Dinner Meeting – October 30 More than 20 Serrans and guests came early to pray a rosary and 32 enjoyed a good meal at Fatima Retreat House. For their donation of food for Brute Days for the last 5 years, Ann Berkemeier presented plaques of appreciation to three donor companies. Judy Kirk Sims (IndyAnnas) Chuck and Donna Kerns (Valle Vista) Cakes by Mary Jane (Mattingly) for All Occasions Rick Santangelo, Ann Berkemeier, Donna & Chuck Kerns Kevin O’Brien and Ken Scheer explained the club’s recent 5 Year Strategic planning process, and the 2018 club objectives were explained for Vocation Outreach by Tim Kelker and Programs by Mary Dougherty. The evening’s featured speaker, Sandra Miesel, delivered an interesting presentation explaining the history, process of becoming, and the importance and rationale for having saints identified and how different the saints are. She also cautioned that we read legitimate books about the saints.

5th Annual Cookout with Priests – October 1

Beautiful weather, good food and drinks, and camaraderie were enjoyed by 44 Serrans and guests and 8 priests at the St Jude rectory.

Mass for Vocations – November 2 at St Luke

Msgr. Joseph Schadel celebrated an all school mass with students,parents and guests, filling almost the entire church. Kevin O'Brien shared with the students our Serra Mission and asked them to think about their own vocations.

After mass, Barbara Hendrickson surprised us with warm sweet rolls that were delicious! We wereable to meet with parishioners to further discuss ourclub efforts. Thanks Barbara!

Pilgrimage for 8th grade students – November 9

26 boys visited Bishop Brute College Seminary and26 girls Our Lady of Grace Monastery. Tim Kelker, Rick Santangelo, and Carl McClelland were Serra chaperones at Brute, and Louise Collet and Deacon Mike Slinger at OLG. Bags containing goodies and a letter encouraging the pilgrims to consider religious vocations were given to each attendee.

Board of Trustees Meeting – November 15

A decision was made to invest club cash reserves in interest bearing account. Contract dates have been set for 2018 at meetings at Fatima Retreat House. A membership drive is being planned for June 2018.

Club Dinner Meeting – November 30

More than 20 people met in the Fatima Chapel to say the rosary, and 50 Serrans and guests ate a fine dinner followed by a review of 5 year goals andobjectives for 2018 for Finance and Operations (Suzy McLaughlin), Membership (Mike Kirk), and Communications (Art Berkemeier). Guest speaker for the evening was Fr Tony Hollowell who, using quotations and stories from the Bible, talked about the ultimate vocation from God. Throughout the history of mankind, there is evidence of how God selects and directs undeserving and unqualified humans to play major roles in His plan for our salvation. Humans only get in trouble when they think they can accomplish the task without God. Fr Tony advised that we need “trust and courage” for salvation.

Mass for Vocations – December 13

14 Serrans and guests attended an all school Massat Thomas Scecina High School celebrated by Fr Aaron Jenkins. Several Serrans and school staff enjoyed social time following Mass and touring the hallway displays honoring Fr Scecina and the Franciscan sisters who served at Scecina High School.

Board of Trustees Meeting – December 20

Based on the current operating cash surplus, the budget for 2018 was approved with a $6,443 deficit.The 2018 essay contest will begin on January 12, 2018. New member orientation will be provided before the March 2018 club dinner meeting.

Seminarian Dinner – December 18

A record crowd (162) of attendees enjoyed the annual dinner with Archdiocesan seminarians and their families, Archbishop Charles Thompson, priests, and Archdiocesan Office of Vocations staff and Serrans and guests at Fatima Retreat House.
