Brainstorming Session on Action Plan on National Mission on Nutricereals ICAR‐Indian Institute of Millets Research organized one day Brainstorm‐ing  Session  to  draw  “Action  Plan  on National Mission  on Nutricereals 

under NFSM” on 29 May 2018. Dr. G Satish, IFS, Commissioner, Agricul‐ture, Government of  Karnataka, Bangalore was  the Chief Guest. Dr. B Dayakar  Rao,  CEO,  Nutrihub  &Principal  Scientist,  IIMR  welcomed  the participants and briefed them about the purpose of organizing this spe‐cial session. Dr. Vilas A Tonapi, Director, IIMR and President, NIELAN pre‐sented  the overview of  the project and  its  impact. Dr. G Satish,  in his Chief Guest address said  that  through  this project  the Council plans  to strengthen its strength as a Nutricereals hub for entrepreneurs, market‐ers and  farmers, and  revive  the millet cultivation  in  India by powering the market  demand.  This was  followed  by  interactive  discussion with scientists  of  IIMR  on  the  issues  associated with  research  project.  Dr. Dinesh  Kumar Agarwal, Acting Director, Directorate of  Seed Research, Mau was also participated in this session.   Two days training programme on Millets Processing Technology  Business  Incubator  of  ICAR‐Indian  Institute  of Millets  Re‐search  organized  two  days  training  program  for  entrepreneurs  of An‐dhra Pradesh during 15‐16th May, 2018 at premises of IIMR. A group of 09  entrepreneurs,  coordinated  by  AP  Food  Processing  Society,  Vijay‐awada, Andhra Pradesh received training to boost the value added tech‐nologies of Millets at Andhra Pradesh  state. Program was  inaugurated on 15th May in presence of Dr. Vilas A. Tonapi, Director, IIMR. He elabo‐rated  the  activities  and  achievements  of  Institute. He  also mentioned the importance of millets in daily diet. Dr. B. Dayakar Rao, Principal Sci‐entist & Course Director gave overview of Training Program.  In the be‐ginning, trainees were formally welcomed by Dr. Sangappa, scientist and Program Coordinator. In two days training, millets processing machinery were demonstrated and hands on training was given to trainees on mil‐lets product development and  recipe preparation.  Trainees  visited  the Millets demonstration fields and incubation centre .           Entrepreneurs

बाजरा आनुवंिशक संसाधन पर्बंधन के अकंरूपण (िडिजटलीकरण) पर रा ीय कायर्शाला भाकृअनुप-भाकअनुसं, हदैराबाद के ारा बाजरे पर अिखल भारतीय समिन्वत अनुसंधान पिरयोजना के संयुक्त तत्वावधान म 10 मई, 2018 को डीजीटलाइजेशन ऑफ पलर् िमलेट जेनेिटक िरसोसस मनैेजमट पर एक िदवसीय रा ीय कायर्शाला का आयोजन िकया गया। इस कायर्शाला का पर्ायोजन कद अनुसंधान संस्था ने िकया। इस कायर्कर्म म बाजरे पर अभासअनुप की पंचवािषर्की समीक्षा दल के अध्यक्ष, डॉ. पी राघव रे ी मुख्य अितिथ के रूप म उपिस्थत थ े तथा डॉ. िवलास ए टोणिप न े कायर्कर्म की अध्यक्षता की। उक्त कायर्कर्म का समन्वय डॉ. एम एलंगोवन, डॉ. बी अमिस ा तथा शर्ीमती ए अ पूणार् के ारा िकया गया।

पादप आनुविंशक संसाधन पर्बधंन के अंकरूपण (िडिजटलीकरण) पर रा ीय कायर्शाला रा ीय पादप आनुवंिशक संसाधन ब्यूरो, नई िदल्ली म जैव-िविवधता पर रा ीय कायर्शाला के अवसर पर 19 मई, 2018 को डीजीटलाइजेशन ऑफ प्लांट जेनेिटक िरसोसस मैनेजमट पर एक िदवसीय कायर्शाला का आयोजन िकया गया। इस कायर्शाला म 20 वैज्ञािनक ने भाग िलया। डॉ. एम एलंगोवन, डॉ. सुशील पांडेय तथा डॉ. कुलदीप ितर्पाठी ने उक्त कायर्शाला का समन्वय िकया। बाजरा जननदर् पर्क्षेतर् िदवस बाजरा अनुसंधानकतार् को बाजरा िविवधता के सबंंध म जानकारी पर्दान करन ेके पर्योजन से भाकृअनुप-भाकअनुसं म 9 मई, 2018 को बाजरा जननदर् पर्के्षतर् िदवस का आयोजन िकया गया। बाजरे पर अभासअनुप कदर् , इिकर्सेट, िनजी बीज कंपिनय से सहभािगय ने भाग िलया। पर्क्षेतर् म बाजरे की कुल 2534 वंशाविलय का पर्दशर्न िकया गया। पर्ोजतरेाकृिविव, हदैराबाद म आयोिजत जैिवक िविवधता के अंतरार् ीय िदवस म भाकृअनपु-भाकअनुस ंकी सहभािगता भाकअनुसं, हदैराबाद ने रा ीय जैविविवधता पर्ािधकरण, चे ई के ारा

पर्ोजतराकृिविव, हदैराबाद म आयोिजत पर्दशर्नी म भाकअनसुं का स्टाल भाकअनुसं, हदैराबाद न े 24 मई, 2018 को पर्ोजतराकृिविव, हदैराबाद म आयोिजत बीज मेला 2018 के दौरान संस्थान के ारा िवकिसत पर्ौ ोिगिकय का पर्दशर्न िकया गया। इस समारोह म शर्ी पोचाराम शर्ीिनवास, माननीय कृिष मंतर्ी, तेलंगाना मुख्य अितिथ के रूप म उपिस्थत थ।े उन्ह ने संस्थान के स्टाल का िनरीक्षण िकया तथा संस्थान के ारा कद के पर्चार हतेु िकए जा रह ेकाय की सराहना की। ससं्थान के स्टाल से कृषक ने बीज खरीद ेतथा संस्थान के ारा िवकिसत कद आधािरत मूल्य-विधर्त उत्पाद की पर्शसंा की। डॉ. बी वी भट, डॉ. सूगण्ण, शर्ी रघुनाथ कुलकण , डॉ. संगप्पा एवं डॉ. महशे कुमार ने कद स्टाल का समन्वय िकया।

आगंतकु एफटीएफ-आईटीटी के पर्िशक्षािथर्य का दौरा कुक्कट अनुसंधान िनदशेालय, हदैराबाद म एफटीएफ-आईटीटी कायर्कर्म म 8 दशे के 30 पर्िशक्षािथर्य ने 5 मई, 2018 को भाकअनुसं का दौरा िकया। यहां पर उनके समक्ष सटर ऑफ एक्सलश म पर्संस्करण पर्ौ ोिगिकय तथा मूल्य-विधर्त उत्पाद का पर्दशर्न िकया गया। डॉ. संगप्पा न ेपर्संस्करण पर्योगशाला म उक्त दौरे का समन्वय िकया।

evinced keen  interest to start millets based enterprises.  Mrs.  Vishala  Devender, Ms.  Kiranmai, Ms.  Sunita,  and other staff of Food Lab coordinated this event. Program was concluded by giving certificates to participants.    Brain storming session on Need assessment of NUTRIHUB Incubatees ICAR‐Indian  Institute of Millets Research’s NUTRIHUB  is the  unique  and  first  of  its  kind  to  cater  to  start‐ups’ need  in the nutri‐cereal sector  in the country. Recently, IIMR identified eleven incubatees under IFSM project to 

take  part with  this  Research  Institution with manufac‐turing hub.  In  this  regard, one day Brain  storming  ses‐sion  on  “Need  assessment  of  NUTRIHUB  Incubatees” was held at IIMR on 24 May, 2018. Dr. B Dayakar Rao, PI of the project gave welcome address and briefed about the purpose of  the meeting. All  the  incubatees  gave  a brief  introduction  of  their  company  along  with  their products and  the  challenges  they are  facing.    They ex‐pressed concern that millets are not in the food catego‐rization code of FSSAI and felt that IIMR should take ini‐tiative to  include all millets  in the category of products.  Looking at  the expectations of  the  incubates, Dr. Daya‐kar said  that  they will be addressed one by one as per admissibility. Dr Vilas A Tonapi, Director, IIMR promised that  the  outside  experts will  be  linked  for  their  needs wherever possible.   Institute Management Committee (IMC) meeting The 27th Institute Management Committee (IMC) meet‐ing was held at  IIMR on 19 May, 2018 under the Chair‐

manship  of  Dr.  Vilas  A  Tonapi,  Director,  IIMR.  Other members who participated  in  the  IMC were: Dr.  IS So‐lanki, ADG  (FFC),  ICAR‐New Delhi; Dr. Sandhya Shenoy, 

Pr. Scientist, NAARM, Hyderabad; Dr. SS Balloli, Pr. Sci‐entist,  CRIDA;  Dr.  Nagesh  Kumar,  Director  (Seeds), PJSTAU, Hyderabad (in lieu of Dr. Raji Reddy, Director of Research); Sh. Kondapalli Sridhar Reddy, Khammam and Sh. Nagapuri Rajamouli, Warangal (Farmers Representa‐tives),  Drs  HS  Talwar  and  K  Srinivasa  Babu  (Co‐Opted members),  Sh. AN Murthy,  FAO,  and  Sh. Charles  Ekka, SAO,  IIMR,  Hyderabad  (Member‐Secretary).  All  the  is‐sues  enlisted  in  the  agenda  relating  to  administration, finance, works,  and  other  issues were  reviewed.    The minutes have been sent to the Council for approval. 

AICRP on Pearl Millet QRT ICAR‐Indian Institute of Millets Research (IIMR), Hydera‐bad organized a meeting on Pearl Millet Improvement in association with All  India Coordinated Research Project on Pearl Millet, Jodhpur, Rajasthan on 9 May, 2018. This meeting  was  attended  by  Scientists  from  AICRP‐Pearl Millet. Dr. Vilas A Tonapi, Director, and Scientists  from  ICAR‐IIMR,  Dr  Tara  Satyavathi,  Project  coordinator, AICRP on Pearl Millet, Scientists  from  ICRISAT and QRT Members of AICRP on Pearl millet  Dr. P Raghava Reddy (chairman), Dr. RK Pannu , Dr. DC Uprety, Dr. ML Lodha  and   Dr. HS Shetty  (Members).   The presentations and progress on Pearl Millet improvement were appraised to the  committee  including  the  future work and  scope of Pearl Millet Improvement. The QRT team members also visited  Centre  of  Excellence,  Biotechnology  lab,  Bio‐chemistry  lab and Entomology  lab  in  IIMR and appreci‐ated  the work  going  on  in  very  frontiers  of  science  in Millets  improvement,  development  and  value  chains. This  programme was  Sponsored  by  Society  for Millets Research  and  coordinated by Drs M  Elangovan, P  San‐jana, and B Amasiddha. National millets workshop & stake holders meet A national workshop of millets workers was organised at IIMR,  Hyderabad,  under  the  auspices  of  IIMR,  Sahaja Samrudha,  Bengaluru  and  Society  for Millet  Research, 

Hyderabad during 21‐22 May, 2018. The workshop was aimed  at  providing  an  interface  platform  of  different stakeholders  involved  in millet  production,  processing, utilization, value addition and popularization.  Individual farmers,  research  scientists  from  IIMR,  NBPGR,  CFTRI, etc., NABARD  officials,  value  addition  start‐ups,  entre‐

preneurs, processing specialists, NGOs involved in millet promotion and millets as organic food,  indigenous seed saver organizations and self‐help groups actively partici‐pated  in the workshop and contributed  in the delibera‐

tions. The workshop was inaugurated by the chief guest Mr Arun Tiwari (Author of wings of fire and Biography of Dr  APJ  Abdul  Kalam),  CARE  Hospitals,  Hyderabad.  Dr. Prakash  Kammaradi,  Chaiman,  Agri  Price  Commission, Karnataka delivered the key note address and Sri. Jacob Nellithanam  ,  Convener,  Bharath  Beej  Swaraj  Manch was the guest of honour.   

The  workshop  was  conducted  in  two  concurrent  ses‐sions  with  Millet  Producers,  Conservation,  Cultivation and Mixed cropping as one group and the second group dedicated  for  Millet  Promoters,  Nutritionists,  Millet Processors  and  Entrepreneurs.  Important  insights  into adaptation of indigenous varieties, development of local markets, millet production  intensification, challenges  in optimizing machinery  for primary processing of millets and  value  addition,  nutritional  benefits  of millets  and priorities  for  future  nutritional  studies,  value  addition and strategies for scaling up, policy push and reorienta‐tion of support for nutri‐cereals, future outlook for value addition technology development, capacity building and popularization  were  discussed  at  length.  The  plenary session concluded with briefing of recommendations of different  sessions.    More  than  100  delegates  partici‐pated in the workshop. Dr. HS Talwar, Principal Scientist, IIMR was the coordinator for this meeting.   

National Workshop on Digitalization of Pearl Millet Genetic Resources Management

A  National Workshop  on  Digitalization  of  Pearl Millet Genetic Resources Management was organized at ICAR‐Indian Institute of Millets Research (IIMR), Hyderabad in collaboration with All  India  Coordinated  Research  Pro‐ject  on  Pearl  millet  on  10th  May  2018.  The  training workshop  was  sponsored  by  Society  for  Millets  Re‐search. Dr P Raghava Reddy, Chairman, QRT – AICRP on Pearl Millet was  the Chief Guest of  the  learning work‐shop  and  Dr  Tara  Satyavathu,  Project  Coordinator, AICRP on Pearl Millet, Jodhpur, RK Pannu, Dr DC Uprety, 

Dr ML  Lodha  and Dr  HS  Shetty,  the QRT Members  of AICRP on Pearl Millet were  the Guest of Honours. The event was chaired by Dr Vilas A Tonapi, Director,  ICAR‐

IIMR. Most of the mobile apps are used to give informa‐tion and  interactive, Field book app  is useful  to  collect digital data in the field/lab. This is unique app because it is open source, easy to use, user can customize and can work offline. The workshop  included a  lecture, problem solving, creating field and trait files and hands on train‐ing on data collection in mobile using the field book app. The workshop was  coordinated by Drs M Elangovan, B Amsiddha and Smt A Annapurna.   National Workshop on Digitalization of Plant Genetic Resources Management

National  Workshop  on  Digitalization  of  Plant  Genetic Resources Management was organized at ICAR‐National Bureau  of  Plant Genetic  Resources Management, New Delhi on 19 May 2018 on the occasion of National Work‐shop on Agro‐Biodiversity. The workshop was attended by 20 scientists working  in Rice, Wheat, Maize, Millets, Pigeonpea,  Chickpea  and  Okra.  They  were  facilitated with  lecture, problem solving and hands on exercise on collecting data using mobile app  field book. During  the closing day Dr Kuldeep Singh, Director, ICAR‐NBPGR ap‐preciated  the  ICAR‐IIMR’s  initiative  to organize  the  se‐ries of National Workshop’s on Digitalization  to  create 

awareness  among  the  researchers  to  use  the  mobile apps for collecting data to digitalize data collection proc‐ess while  saving  the  paper  usage.  The National Work‐shop  was  coordinated  by  Drs  M  Elangovan,  Sushil Pandey and Kuldeep Tripathi.   Pearl millet Germplasm Field day Pearl millet germplasm field day was organized at ICAR‐IIMR‐Hyderabad  on  9 May  2018  to  facilitate  the  pearl

millet researchers to know about the pearl millet diver‐sity.  The  participants were  from AICRP  on  Pearl millet centres  from Dhule, Aurangabad, Ananthapur,  Jodhpur, Jamnagar,  Bikaner,  ICAR‐IARI‐New  Delhi,  ICRISAT  – Patancheru and 11 Private Seed Companies with 13 par‐ticipants  viz.,  Maharashtra  Hybrid  Seeds  Company Pvt.Ltd  –  Jalna; Maharashtra  State  Seeds  Corporation Ltd – Akola; Nirmal Seeds Pvt Ltd. – Pachora; Krishidhan Seeds Ltd – Jalna; and Mahindra Agri Solutions Limited, Hytech  Seed  India  Pvt  Ltd;  Bayers  BioScience  Pvt  Ltd; Rasi Seeds  (P) Ltd. –; UPL Limited,  JK Agri Genetics Ltd. 

and Eco Agriseeds Pvt. Ltd. from Hyderabad. There were 2534  acc.  of  pearl millet  germplasm  displayed  in  the field to the researchers for selection.   

ICAR-IIMR at International Day of Biological Diversity organized at PJTSAU-Hyderabad

ICAR‐IIMR participated  in  the  International Day  for Bio‐logical Diversity 2018 organized by National Biodiversity Authority (NBA), Chennai at PJTSAU‐Hyderabad on 22nd May 2018. The theme was “Celebrating 25 years of Ac‐tion  for Biodiverdity”. The meeting was  inaugurated by Hon'ble Governor of Telangana Shri. E.S. Lakshmi Nara‐simhan. The programme was also attended by Shri Jogu Ramanna, Minister of Agroforestry, Government of Te‐langana;  Dr  B  Meenakumari,  Chairperson  NBA;  Dr  V Praveen Rao, Vice Chancellor, PJTSAU, Hyderabad; and United National Development Programme (UNDP) coun‐try  Director Marina Walter. Millets  Genetic  Resources 

Management was  the  theme  of  ICAR‐IIMR’s  exhibition stall. It was visited by more than 500 participants includ‐ing  Scientists,  Farmers,  Students  etc. Dr M  Elangovan, Principal  Scientist  and  Smt  A  Annapurna,  CEO  coordi‐nated the exhibition from IIMR.   PG Padmaja received Fellowship Royal Entomological Society

Dr. PG Padmaja, Principal Scientist, IIMR received  the  prestigious  “Fellowship  of the  Royal  Entomological  Society,  Lon‐don. The  society  is devoted  to  the pro‐motion and development of entomologi‐cal  science.  It  aims  to  promote  excel‐lence  in  entomology  and  demonstrates the  importance  of  studying  insects  to  everyone.  IIMR Family  congratulates  Dr.  Padmaja  for  this  significant achievement  and wishes  her many more  laurels  in  fu‐ture.  Exhibition stalls  

IIMR participates in Exhibition at Kharif Seed Mela, PJTSAU

ICAR‐IIMR  organized  exhibition  stall  and  showcased technologies developed by the institute in on the eve of Kharif Seed Mela  2018 organized at PJTSAU, Hyderabad on 24th May, 2018. Hon’ble Agriculture Minister of Te‐langana, Mr. Pocharam Srinivas Reddy was Chief Guest for one day event.  He visited IIMR stall and appreciated

the efforts made by  IIMR  to promote millets at Telan‐gana  state  under  Farmers  FIRST  project.  Dr.  Vilas  A. Tonapi, Director,  IIMR elaborated  the activities of  IIMR 

in  detail. More  than  50  exhibitors  including  ten  from ICAR,  around  1000  farmers  across  Telangana  partici‐pated  in  the event. Farmers purchased  seeds  from  the IIMR and appreciated value added products developed by the Institute. They expressed interest to take training at IIMR on millets products. Dr. BV. Bhat, Dr. Sooganna Mr. Raghunath Kulkarni, Dr. Sangappa and Dr. Mahesh Kumar participated and coordinated the event.  Guest Lecture

Dr. M  Elangovan,  delivered  an  invited  lec‐ture on Digitalization of Plant Genetic Re‐sources Management  during  the National Workshop  on  Agro‐Biodiversity,  at  ICAR‐National  Bureau  of  Plant  Genetic  Re‐sources  (NBPGR),  Hyderabad  on  19  May 2018.

FTF- ITT trainees visit to IIMR

ICAR‐Directorate  of  Poultry  Research,  Hyderabad  con‐ducted Training program called FTF‐ITT (Feed the Future India Triangular Training Programme) during 1st May to 15th May 2018.  As a part of this training, a group of 30 

executives of 8 countries with officials of  ICAR‐DPR vis‐ited the ICAR‐ Indian Institute of Millets Research on 5th May,  2018  to  understand  the  production  technologies of  drought  tolerant millets  and  its  utilization.  Partici‐pants were demonstrated above primary and secondary processing technologies at Centre of Excellence and dis‐played  the  value  added  products  of  millets.  Trainees appreciated  the  millets  value  added  products  and shown  keen  interests  to  promote  millets  products  in 

their country. Trainees also appreciated the recent tech‐nologies,  advancements  and  extension  approaches  in millet  production  and  value  chain.  Ms.  Kiranmai  and other staff of Food lab made known the health benefits of Millets. Dr. Sangappa, Scientist, IIMR coordinated this visit to food lab.  

Dignitaries Dr. Bhaskar, ADG  (Natural Resource Management) vis‐ited IIMR on 26 May, 2018. Dr. Vilas A Tonapi, Director, IIMR described him about the institute’s research activi‐

ties, aspirations and thrust areas and millet value added technologies. He also visited the ICAR‐IIMR facilities like, Millets  Gene‐bank,  Entomology  Laboratory,  Centre  of Excellence and Business Incubator.  MANAGE Trainees Visits IIMR

National  Institute  of  Agricultural  Extension  Manage‐ment  (MANAGE), Hyderabad  organized  a  training  pro‐gram  on “Technology  Innovation  and  Commercializa‐tion: Agriculture  and Allied  Sectors” from May  16  ‐ 18, 2018 at MANAGE campus. A batch of nearly 30 partici‐pants  including senior and middle  level officials of Agri‐culture,  Horticulture,  Animal  Husbandry,  Sericulture,

various programmes, the facilitation involving the indus‐try  has  been  planned. A  discussion was  held with  the team of Ravi foods, Hyderabad. Further networking and licensing of technology is being worked out.   

Superannuation of Sh. P Prakash  

Sh. P Prakash,  Sr. Technical Officer (T‐6) attained super‐annuation on 31st May, 2018 after  rendering 34 years of untiring service to this institute.  He was felicitated on 

the occasion and presented with a memento on behalf of the Staff Recreation Club.  Many staff members recol‐lected his  service  to  the  institute  in various  capacities.  The members of the recreation club wished him a very happy and healthy retired life ahead. 

Fisheries,  and  SMS  from  KVKs  faculty,  scientists  from ICAR, SAU, NGOs and entrepreneurs visited ICAR‐Indian Institute  of Millets  Research  to  understand  the  tech‐nologies  developed  by  institute  and  incubation  center activities. Primary and  secondary processing machiner‐ies of millets were demonstrated during  the visit. They also visited sales counter of IIMR to purchase the value added  products  of  millets.  Dr.  Sangappa  coordinated this event  

Memorandum of Agreements Memorandum  of  Understanding  between  ICAR‐IIMR and  M/s  Malleshwara  Agro  Agencies,  Erigudi  village, Bellary,  Karnataka was  signed  to  produce  and market the CSH 33 MF forage sorghum. This Agreement shall be 

in  force  for a period of 36 months  from 22 May, 2018. Dr. Vilas A Tonapi, Director – IIMR on behalf of IIMR and Mr. K Anil Kumar Reddy, on behalf of Malleshwara Agro Agencies,  signed  and  exchanged  the  agreement  in  the presence  of  IIMR  Scientists  Drs.  C  Aruna  and  Avinash Singode.
