Treasurers Report
The unaudited accounts to 31 October 2010 show that the profit to date is both ahead of budget and last years results. All areas are performing well with turnover for the ten months 10% above budget and $ 430000 above the 2009 figures. While the results for November have not been finalised preliminary figures show another solid month consistent with the budget. Management and staff should be thanked for their efforts which have resulted in a substantial improvement in the financial results this year. Steve Davies Treasurer
The following strategies assist a person with hearing
loss

hearing aids & other appropriate listening devices
Position yourself near the speaker
Use your vision to compensate for lack of hearing
• Have your vision tested.
• Use lipreading or speechreading
• Watch the speaker carefully for facial expression,
gesture and body language.
Use technology to support residual hearing
• Use amplification, hearing aids or personal listening
devices
• Use an amplified telephone for increasing the

Welfare Report
December already – it seems no time at all since we celebrated Easter.
It has been such a busy year.
The Welfare Volunteer Drivers have really excelled this year. I am sure
that those of you who have had need of assistance from them, will join
me in saying ‘well done’ and thank you.
For those who may not be aware of the many Welfare Projects in which
our many volunteers are involved, we have those who Visit Aged Care
Facilities as well as in homes; we have the School Breakfast Program
volunteers; Men’s Shed; Day Club; the new Heat Plan to be commenced
this summer - and there are those who assist with the sale of Poppies
and badges for Anzac Day and Remembrance Day.
Our Welfare committee and the Children’s Christmas Carnival
subcommittee have all been working to enhance our Club in its
outreach to the local community as well as you our members.
It is with pleasure that we are able to support the Portsea Camp next
January. This is a commitment that the PI RSL has maintained now for a
number of years and we are delighted to be able to say that we are
sponsoring another four children next month.
We are also assisting St.Vincent De Paul with their Christmas hampers
again this year to the number of 100 children.
So I take this opportunity to thank all who have helped with Welfare
this year – and in that I include our staff - Karen in the Welfare office,
and all the staff in reception and the office and particularly to Rosann
we congratulate on receiving an achievement award at the RSL Hall of
Fame Awards Dinner 2010.
May you all have a happy and blessed Christmas and a joyful new year.
Elwyn Sparks,
Chaplain
Chair Welfare Committee.

The Golf Section held their annual Nell Haslett Charity
Golf Day on
Sunday November 14th. The funds raised go to the
Wonthaggi Wheezers which is a support group for peo-
ple with breathing difficulties and is run by Bass Coast
Regional Health.
Although the weather was terrible leading up to the
day, as usual on a Dirty Dozen golf day the weather was
fine. With only a small field attending we were still able
to raise $600, which was presented to Kay Beaton from
Bass Coast Regional Health.
Winners on the day were the team of Kay Beaton, Tony Crennan, Rowdy
Jansen and John Weston.
Runners-up were Faye Morris, Sam Orr, Deb Orr and Peter Orr.
Nearest the pin on the 5th was Wayne Burton 3.2 metres, the 7th John Ben-
son 1.7 metres,

Angling Section Competition Date: Tuesday 26th to Friday 29th October 2010.
Venue: Lakes Entrance
Members Attending: 17
Competition Bag Weight: .732gm
Largest Fish Species: Bream
The October Monthly Angling competition was held at Lakes Entrance combining
also our competition against Lakes Entrance R.S.L. Angling Section.
Lakes Entrance R.S.L. Competition
A combined total of 17 members from both clubs, took up the challenge early on
Thursday morning 28* October, on what started out to be a great day for fishing.
We hired a charter boat on Lake Tyers where 12 fishing members were taken over
the Lake chasing the elusive fish, and the remainder went on G.Ts boat, (one of
the Lakes Entrance Club members).
After three and a half hours of our four hour charter on Lake Tyers, we still had
not had any bites and the charter boat skipper was getting very concerned. Fi-
nally after a little over four and a half hours we finally had a fish on board to the
relief of the skipper as we then made our way back to the jetty. Although the
charter was to be only for 4 hours, the skipper at least did the right thing and kept
us out until a fish was caught.
The remaining fishermen on G.T.s boat went outside the entrance but again did
not catch anything that was legal size.
Later that afternoon many of us went to the Tambo river for a fish and again after
throwing back around 14 undersized Bream, we finally had one of legal size. Over-
all the fishing was poor and as we have discovered we are approximately 1 month
too early so we will be amending our itinerary for next year.
The winning bag of .732gm consisting of a .333gm Flathead caught by Delia, and
a .399gm Bream caught by myself (Bill) ensured that Phillip Island again retained
the trophy.
Once again, congratulations to Delia and Bill from Phillip Island, and also our sin-
cere thanks and gratitude to the Lakes Entrance Angling Section for their hospi-
tality and friendship.
