Our August Tour was lots of fun. Rob Shanahan, Tom Thurston, and Ray Lawrence were the perfect hosts while showing us their businesses. Rob always has some amazing story concerning the history of one of the cars he is restoring or one of the races in which he is participating. Rob's 'free style' makes him a very approachable and likeable individual. Tom and Ray gave a more technical approach as they guided us

'. . " through their recently established business. Not only ',"'~, " J;.: was I impressed with their knowledge, but the environ-

: -'::<. mental protection agencies are also delighted with this . .-" safe and clean operation.

',. _','_'-: _~A 'l-clc_ B.al!.er.!ni--is-ccnti!?-uing-to.-ffi2..keprogress Dn his 1936 coupe restoration . It's fun to see the car periodically and apprediate his efforts, Craig Pearson showed

~:"" off the chassis of his latest restoration. Of course, for Craig, his new Escondido home was his pride and joy. Craig was wearing a smile all day long and I could just

",,j feel how proud he was. Craig was also gracious enough , J "J"o). : :'!.:ic.~:; to allow us to intrude and have our picnic at his home.

Very obliging, since he had only moved into the house just hours prior to our arrival.

The tour was fun, the friendship was great, the waether cooperated, and the food was tasty, The only thing we could have asked for was more participation and more Packards. Remember, PARTICIPATION is what makes this club fon for everyone.

The club is again busy. The 1953 Mayfair project, planning for the 1989 ALL-CAL Tour, choosing officers for the next year, establishing a club budget, and planning the Christmas Party are some of the events on which we are working. Anyone with any ideas, please contact me as I want to recognize everyone's contribution and participation.

MAYFAIR PROJECT

We need ticket sellers! Several events will be upcoming and we need help in selling tickets. Please let Linda Bittner, 566-8618, know if you would be willing to help out for a few hours. The more people we have, the less time each of the volunteers will have to be there at any one event.

To:ill Sa.."l-Diego :\.;'ea Car Clut

A 1953 Packard Mayfair was r the first cars do •. __ ;ed to the newly formed San Diego Automotive

Museum. The car had been sto: " a garage for more than twelve years, and was in no shape to be put

on display.

The San Diego Region of Packards International Motor Car Club was the first car club to become a member of the San Diego Automotive Museum. On one of our meeting nights, Mr. Nick Finselberg

showed us the building and commented on how much work and human effort would be required to

change the building into a u.-.;;t class showplace.

In our collective voice, weeee asked . .. , "Well, what can we do to help, to get this place presentable, to

raise money?"

Candidly, He replied, "The Museum has been given this Packard that doesn't run.

Would you like to take a look at it, and see what can be done?" The challenge thus raL<;ed, we then had a notion,

and put this great idea in the form of a motion.

To repair and paint, and much more than this story, To restore this once proud car to its former glory.

Thus our club has spent a year and some more, Mechanics, and painters, and laborers as one, Skinning knuckles, grunting hard and yet keeping the score,

Of the hundreds, or thousands of things we have done,

To revive this great Packard to the glory of yore .. . And, to see that the Museum gets much recognition,

We are asking YOUR CLUB to help with ignition. r · To give us extra spark, help us out of the thicket,
