How does Year 2 differ from Year 1 ?

We still make learning fun!

• During Year 2 the children will continue to grow as confident learners and become increasingly responsible for their own needs.

• The children may feel that the pace of learning increases and the expectation for them to evaluate and self assess this learning and next steps will also increase.

• Lessons will continue to be exciting and engaging, where they have the opportunity to work with their peers and individually.

• End of year assessments (SATs) will be reported to the borough but do not differ from any other year group in term of their importance.

Page 5: September th 2016 - Montbellemontbelle.org.uk/.../05/Year-2-meet-the-teacher-2016.pdfLiteracy Introduction of children’s checklist to self evaluate their own work. Daily phonics

• Throughout the year, we will make sure children are working towards end of Key Stage One expectations; ‘Booster’ groups will be delivered to address any gaps in children’s learning and for those we believe can be challenged even further.

• Your child CANNOT fail their SATs. They will receive a mark, which will be reported to you at the end of Year 2 (as part of their school report),

• The National Expectation is that children achieve a secure level which means that they have secured their knowledge and ability to use all of the skills taught in Year 2.

What else do I need to know?

A day in Year 2

NumeracyThroughout the week the children will learn new mathematical concepts which build on previous learning.

They will practice different written methods and use a range of equipment to ‘experience and consolidate’ their understanding.

Towards the end of the week the children will be asked to apply their understanding through a range of challenges and word problems.
