Welcome back! We are off and running on another exci6ng school year! The first few days of school are always the most exci6ng for staff and students. Students are making new friends and teachers are learning about their students. The first day of school brought us great news regarding enrollment. Our served enrollment is up 21 students from last year including a kindergarten class that has over 40 students!! Here is a quick enrollment breakdown comparing the first day of school this year to the first day of school last year: 201516 SY K5th grade 158 students 6th8th grade 76 students 9th12th grade 105 students Total 339 students 201617 SY K5th grade 180 students 6th8th grade 81 students 9th12th grade 99 students Total 360 students (By comparison, we served 276 in 2011) Hidden in these numbers is the fact that our smallest class is our senior class meaning we are expec6ng another large jump next year. Exci6ng 6mes in Janesville! As many of you know, the school board has approved a proposal to put forth a bond issue for building expansion. This is the second 6me that we have asked the tax base to consider a $5.395 million dollar expansion. With growing student enrollment comes the need for more classroom space. This proposal would give us up to five addi6onal classrooms in the elementary where our enrollment is really taking off. More informa6on can be found on our website and flyers will be around town by the end of the week. If you have any ques6ons throughout the process, please do not hesitate to contact me, or stop at one of our town hall mee6ngs scheduled for October 25th and October 30th. Items  to  Note:

• We  have  updated  our  informaMon  management  system  from  JMC  to  Infinite  Campus.    The  process  and  learning  involved  in

appreciate  your  paMence.    We  will  be  sharing  account  log-‐in  informaMon  in  the  next  few  weeks.    In  the  meanMme,  if  you  have  any

quesMons  or  concerns  about  how  your  student  is  performing  in  a  parMcular  class,  please  contact  individual  teachers.

This month, the National Honor Society will be selling Yuda Bands to help a student in Mkoba, Zimbabwe go to school. Yuda Bands, handmade bracelets from Guatemala, are sold in fundraisers to help kids like Jabu Moyo go to school when they could not otherwise. This month from September 21st – October 5th, the National Honor Society will be selling these bands in the office and at home games. The bands cost $7.50 and all proceeds will go to Jabu if we reach a goal of 174 bands sold. As a group we are striving to sell as many bands as we can to help him go to school with fewer expenses.

My name is Jabu Moyo. I live in Mkoba. I could not continue with my education to secondary school because my father could not pay my school fees. My father lost his job at Antelope Park about three years ago and has been unemployed since then. We have been struggling as a family. If I get the opportunity to return to school, I want to work hard and become a teacher. I like reading books and playing football. -JABU MOYO

Nurses’ Notes……by Linda Bauer Oh, my! Summer is over and Fall is upon us! I have seen many injuries from falls - from swings, monkey bars, soccer, 4-square, football, untied shoe laces, bumps, pushes while standing in line, running in flip flops and the list keeps going. Most of these injures require cleaning the wound or abrasion, applying antibiotic ointment and bandaids. Some have required larger type dressings that I wrap to keep the dressing in place so that they can go out to play at the next recess. We have an energetic group of students!

Another thing I am seeing more of are stomach aches that are coming from not eating breakfast. I give them crackers or granola bars here, but they really need to start the day with a real breakfast. Not eating breakfast can lead to headaches, dizziness, and nausea. Some of the students need to just eat more at breakfast, especially those that are in a growing period and those involved in athletics after school. Healthy carbs, protein, and fruit are a good way to start the day. A reminder that our school does provide breakfast in the cafeteria every morning.

2016 Volleyball/Football Golf Outing

A big thank you to Dale Eastman and Todd Bengen for putting it all together along with the Willow Run Country Club! Thank you to those who golfed and sponsored holes. We really appreciate all of the community support! Wildcat Pride!

Calling all Janesville Parents....please consider joining the PTA!!

We are mixing it up this year with new events, fundraising and member socials. Lots of great things

ahead for the year and we want YOU to be a part of it. Our first meeting is Sept. 19th at Tapatio in

Waverly at 6:30 p.m. We will have a quick meeting and then spend the rest of our time getting to

know each other. If you are on the fence, just come to the first meeting and check it out.

If you already know you want to join, please fill out our online registration form at:

www.sms.uni.edu/jcsd_pta (Dues are $5 and can be paid at the first meeting.)

If you are worried about committing too much time, DON'T! You can do as much or as little as you want. We just want to give you the opportunity to help raise and direct funds into your kid's

classrooms. You will also get the benefit of meeting other parents, teachers and administrators.

If you have any questions, please reach out to any of our officers below.
