LLCs and S-Corps
LLCs and S-Corps are corporations. Their owners receive a paycheck from the company.
LLCs and S-Corps
For Food (FA) and Cash Assistance, owners of LLCs and S-Corps are considered employees. Their income is considered earned income wages, not self-employment
For Medical Assistance (MA) and the Marketplace, income from LLCs and S-Corps is considered self-employment income if the client is the owner
LLCs and S-Corps
This project will allow eligibility workers to data enter this income on one page in CBMS (Self-Employment)
It will also modify PEAK so that clients can input that their self-employment is from an LLC or S-Corps
LLCs and S-Corps
The “Yes/No" radio button will be defaulted to “No" for all current self-
employment records that were created prior to this build. At the next
RRR/PR/application, eligibility workers may need to modify these records so that the income counts properly for all HLPGs.
Quiz Question 1
A client is employed by an S-Corp. He does not own the company. He applies for Food and Medical Assistance on PEAK, and indicates that he has self-employment LLC S-Corp income. In CBMS, this goes into the Self Employed Income page with the S-Corp LLC radio button as “Yes.” Is this correct?
Quiz Question 2
A client applies in-person for MA and FA. She owns 40% of an LLC. Her eligibility worker data enters the income on the self-employment page in CBMS, and selects “Yes” for S-Corp LLC.
Quiz Question 3
A client submits an application for FA and MA. At the interview for FA, the Head of Household reports working for an LLC, and provides a self-employment ledger with business expenses. The eligibility worker asks the client if she owns the LLC and receives a check from it, and she confirms that that is the case.
Income at Intake for Food Assistance
Project 4014 made it possible for eligibility to be determined using one pay
stub regardless of frequency
Project 7821, implemented in March, allows
representative income from the current month and prior
month to be averaged together when
determining eligibility
Income at RRR/PR for Food Assistance
Project 8545 will update the RRR/PR process so that it is similar to the intake process
Earned income received 2 months prior or 1 month after the RRR/PR due date will be averaged and converted to determine eligibility
