How to Use Brain Benders

Thank you for your purchase! I hope that you find Brain Benders to be an extremely

useful way to challenge the students in your classroom.

It is important to model how to use Brain Benders for your class. Print one out and put it on the

blackboard or overhead. You could also download the file and put it on the Smartboard if you have one. Each

day, pick one of the Brain Benders for the month and have the students practice giving thoughtful, detailed

answers. For example, one of the questions on September’s Brain Bender is “When is it hard to do the right

thing?” This would make for an excellent classroom discussion and show students how to give thorough

answers to the Brain Benders rather than short answers with little depth.

Brain Benders can be used any way you wish. You can…

Send home a copy of each monthly Brain Bender with students to use as an enrichment activity at

home. (I originally designed Brain Benders while working as a Gifted and Talented Resource Teacher.

I gave these to the classroom teachers to use this way and they were extremely popular!)

Use Brain Benders as a journal activity in the classroom. Simply glue or staple a copy of the

appropriate month’s Brain Bender into each student’s journal. Students can then select the activity

they wish to do each morning. I would suggest that students color in each square as they complete

that activity. By allowing students free choice in picking a Brain Bender activity, the teacher also

gains insight into where a student’s multiple intelligence strengths lie.

Turn Brain Benders into a center activity during Language Arts. Students can keep a notebook

dedicated to Brain Benders and then work on them whenever it is time for the Brain Bender Center.

Brain Benders are also available in a September – June Pack. Download once and be set for the entire

school year!

Please follow me on TPT so that you know when I update my store with Brain Benders, critical thinking

activities, lessons, and more. Enjoy!
