Labor Day weekend is upon us and it’s time to place the “bookend” on the Summer of 2018!! School has been in for a week and folks are starting to “get back into the routine” of a new academic year! Labor Day weekend also marks the beginning of a “reset” of sorts in the ministries of FBC as we all find ourselves back in place! Let me share with you a preview of what we’ll be doing the next several months.

Between September 9 and November 11, I will be preaching from the Epistle of James.

September 9 – James 1:1 - Christianity must really make a difference in the way we live. 16 – James 1:2-18 – Dealing with difficulties and temptations 23 – James 1:19-27 – True Christianity and how we “get there” 30 – James 2:1-13 – a level playing field; no favoritism allowed

October 7 –World Communion Day 14 – Chris Tomlin will be preaching – I’ll be out of town and will pickup James on 21st. 21 – James 3:1-12 – Controlling our tongues 28 – James 4:1-12 – Cause of and cure for conflict

November 4 – James 4:13-17 – Making our lives count for Christ 11 – James 5:7-20 – Patience in suffering; power & importance of Prayer 18 – Christ the King Sunday 25 – Hanging the Greens

Wednesday evening Bible study will include two (2) options:

Lesson 1 – Introduction Lesson 2 – God Is Love Lesson 3 – Holy, Holy, Holy Lesson 4 – Gracious and Merciful Father Lesson 5 – Jesus, Our Substitute on the Cross Lesson 6 – The Father Who Disciplines Lesson 7 – Jesus, The Humble Servant Lesson 8 – The God Beyond Compare Lesson 9 – The God of All Comfort

The time schedule and meal cost are the same as last year and of course, the Children & Youth will meet for Bible study and activities. We hope you and your entire family will make Wednesday evening a priority as we gather for Fellowship & Bible study!!

This time of year is also the time we engage in re-staffing the teams and committees of the church!

Two of those groups are our Deacons & Trustees! Each Sunday during September beginning Sept. 9, you will find inserted in the bulletin a Nomination Form for both of these teams. Forms will also be posted on the FBC website

(www.fbcfarmvillenc.org) and will be available each Wednesday evening.

Completed forms should be signed, folded and placed in the offer-ing plate each Sunday or dropped off at the church office. During worship on September 16, we will also have a specific time set aside during which we can nominate those we wish to place on these teams. Begin NOW to prayerfully consider whose names you’ll place in nomination for Deacon and Trustee.

This is always an exciting time in the life of First Baptist and my hope is that you and your family will be a part of all that God is doing in and through FBC!! Blessings, Rick

On Saturday, September 22nd, we will go to Sylvan Heights

bird park in Scotland Neck for a guided tour. We will leave

the church at 9 am and head to the park. We will be at the

park for 2-3 hours and then go somewhere for lunch. The

kids will need money for lunch. The park and tour cost will be

covered by the church. We will be back at church between

3-3:30 pm.

Attention Backpack Pal Supporters:

For the 2018-2019 school year we will not be collect-ing sponsorships initially because at present we have a surplus of money. That is because of generous

giving, frugal shopping, and the number of children we served last year was down from 16-10. If as the school goes on we need to start our sponsorships again you will be contacted individually. Thank you so much for your generosity. If any of you would like to deliver the bags to the classrooms on Fridays every other month, please contact Elaine. It only takes about 30 minutes at the most and the school gets credit for the volunteer time.

Thank you to everyone who helped with the Refuge breakfast and dinner (bakers, cooks, servers, donors, those who offered prayers, and those who greeted). It was a blessed event. We had 45 for breakfast and 70 for dinner which included our workers.

September 13 @ 10:00 am at FBC or 11:45 @ Soup Kitchen. Volunteers Welcome!

Monetary donations and food are still need-ed for the Benevolent Ministries Food Pantry! FBC is responsible for stocking the shelves for Sept. Remember to make checks to FBC and mark them for FBM Food Pantry. Thank you for your continued support.
