4-H News Don’t worry; I haven’t lost my mind, well I don’t think I have. I know it is only September,
but it’s the new year in 4-H!
September is the month we START ALL OVER AGAIN! Hopefully you are as excited
about the new year as I am.
Each year the clubs are to make up goals for their club and members. Mine for White
County 4-H was getting to know more of our new 4-H’ers, and planning new workshops,
classes, and projects for the upcoming 2017-2018 4-H year. I hope I completed these goals
for you, but my Biggest Goal was to expand the White County 4-H G.I.F.T Garden. This
was all achieved because of you! You helped me, by inviting friends, family, and the com-
munity to events, workshops, etc. With the help from 4-H members, leaders, and volunteers
in the community, the G.I.F.T Garden has been a success once again! Thank you!!!
Keep your eye on the new year and new events that will be happening in White County 4-H!
I know I am excited, can’t you tell?

theme this year is Mission: Adventure –Join the Team. Change the World. Look for all the exciting things
happening in your county.
What will your club do? Put up a display in an area business window. Put 4-H signs in supporter’s yards. Visit a
local nursing home. Sponsor a new member rally. Raise money to help kids in your community. Maybe you’d like to
sponsor a National Youth Science Day experiment featuring the wonderful world of Incredible Wearables! How
will you 4-H?
This will also be White County’s theme for Window Display, 4-H Week, and
Evening of Excellence skits.

in 4-H as a teenager from leadership and teaching opportunities to international travel and scholarship
awards you can win.
You can find out more about these exclusive adventures by coming to 4-H Road Trip on September 23.
The 4-H Road Trip will be a one-day event located at the University of Illinois Urbana Champaign on September 23. The day will
include a rally with a DJ, a bucket list challenge sponsored by collegiate 4-H members, and an 4-H Opportunity Expo where youth

We Need You in Springfield! We’re looking for Illinois 4-H teens that want to give back – give back to 4-H by sharing their 4-H story with others. That could be YOU. Whether it
be talking to donors, civic groups, county board members or state legislators, we need YOUR help! Join the
Speaking for Illinois 4-H team and share your story. The next training is Saturday, Sept. 30 in Belvidere at the
Boone County Extension Office.
Taught by members of the Illinois 4-H Youth Leadership Team, Speaking for Illinois 4-H is open to 4-H members age 14 and older. Speaking for Illinois 4-H (SFI4-H) offers teens advanced training in preparing
your 4-H story to “tell the world” how great the 4-H program is!
By taking the training, you’ll be able to assist your local 4-H program with speaking engagements and one-on-
one conversations. Once trained, 4-H’ers are expected to work with their local Extension staff to promote 4-H
on the local level. On the state level, trained members receive invitations to participate in the 4-H Legislative
Connection events at the state Capitol each spring.
Cost is $12 for the 10 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. training; lunch is included. Space is limited, so don’t wait until the last
minute to register! We hope to see you at the next Speaking for Illinois 4-H training! Register @
go.illinois.edu/4Hspeaking by September 20.

demonstrate exemplary service to 4-H, while promoting service through volunteerism as both an opportunity and a privilege.
