It has been a great summer.Only problem is it was waytoo short.

September 17 starts our falldinner meeting at Furnitureand Appliancemart. They doa fantastic job providing us agreat meal and venue. I wantto thank them in advance forbeing an outstandingsupporter of WABA.

The clay shoot had anoutstanding turn out! It

provided fun for everyone that attended and provided abig financial help to give the Honor Flight funds tocontinue with their great mission.

We as an Association have returned to having a greatfinancial situation.

There are many dedicated and passionate membersworking hard to build our Association to be a meaningfulcontributing part of the community.

The one area we are lacking is new membership. Ichallenge everyone to help bring our membership back towhere they once were.

For every new builder member I feel we would gain 2associates. Please have a membership applicationavailable and encourage every builder you come incontact with to consider becoming a member. Tell them ofthe values of the association. 1. The Parade of Homesopportunity. 2. The State and National Association thatworks to protect the building industry. 3. The networkingopportunity with other builders and associate members.

Remember you can bring a potential new member to adinner meeting at no charge. So I challenge you to bringsomeone new to the next meeting.

Saw Mill Accident....

Paddy and Mick are working at the local saw mill.

One day, Mick slips and his arm gets caught andsevered by the big bench saw.

Paddy quickly puts the limb in a plastic bag andrushes it and Mick to the local hospital.

Next day, Paddy goes to the hospital and asks afterMick. The nurse says, "Oh he's out in Rehabexercising".

Paddy couldn't believe it, but there's Mick out theback exercising his now re-attached arm.

The very next day he's back at work in the sawmill.

A couple of days go by, and then Mick slips andsevers his leg on another bloody big saw.

So Paddy puts the limb in a plastic bag and rushesit and Mick off to the Hospital.

Next day he calls in to see him and asks the nursehow he is. The nurse replies, "He's out in theRehab again exercising".

And sure enough, there's Mick out there doingsome serious work on the treadmill. And very soonMick comes back to work.

But, as usual, within a couple of days he hasanother accident and severs his head.

Wearily, Paddy puts the head in a plastic bag andtransports it and Mick to the hospital.

Next day he goes in and asks the nurse how Mickis. The nurse breaks down and cries and says,"He's dead."

Paddy is shocked, but not surprised. "I suppose thesaw finally did him in."

"No", says the nurse, "Some idiot put his head in aplastic bag and he suffocated".

Hello all! Another Home Show is approaching fast! The 2016 Show will beheld at The Central Wisconsin Convention and Expo Center (formerly ThePatriot Center) for the 7th year. Last year was the first time in a number ofyears that we had all our booths filled when the show started!

For 2016 we have many advance registrations, and with the number ofexhibitors returning and asking for more booths, we have decided to usesome additional space at the Expo center, so we are also taking reservationsfor booths in the ballroom. In the last three years we have had numerousrequests for this, and we feel that 2016 will be the time to expand the show.

We are also planning a date change to the last weekend in February for2016.

If you are interested in a booth for 2016, and you were not in the 2015 show, please contact our WABA sales rep, Doug Reimer at [email protected] or 715-581-9520. Or follow this link to the floorplan at Booth

Boss and reserve your booth today!

You will see that we have redesigned the layout, moving the kitchen demo to the ballroom, and using thecenter court area of the main exhibit hall for seminars. The new ballroom area will be used as a gardencenter type area, and if you are in the landscaping business, call me, or Doug, for a special show pricingto access this area.

If you are interested in doing a seminar, please get in touch with Larry Meyer.

Thank you and have a great fall building season!

Dear Members of theWisconsin BuildersAssociation,

Recently Governor Walkersigned the 2015-2017Wisconsin State Budget intolaw that contained a number ofprovisions that were supportedby the Wisconsin BuildersAssociation (WBA).

WBA members and staff spent a great deal of timeworking with Governor Walker, members of the JointCommittee on Finance and legislative leaders to advocatein support of a number of provisions to improve housing inWisconsin.

Below are some of the major provisions in the 2015-2017State Budget supported by the WBA:

• An additional property tax cut

• Prohibit automatic fire sprinklers in one and twofamily dwellings by administrative rule change

• Statewide uniform standards for shoreland zoning(NR 115)

• Statewide electrical standard for commercialbuildings

• Delete education grants at the Department of Safetyand Professional Services

• Timelines for the Capital Area Regional PlanningCommission (CARPC)

• A waiver to the building code for certain religioussects

• Elimination of the Multifamily Dwelling Code Council

• Prohibition on local governments from imposing timeof sale requirements

• Federalizing the lead paint standard for enforcementof the lead paint renovator rule and an increase inthe maximum fine for non-compliance from $1000 to$5000

• Retain current law for the historic tax credit

Also, late in the budget negotiations, the legislature alsoagreed on and passed significant changes to prevailingwage laws in Wisconsin. Starting on January 1, 2017,prevailing wage rates will not be required on projects paidfor by local units of government (towns, villages, cities, counties, school districts, technical colleges and municipalutilities).

State projects will still require prevailing wage rates to beused, but the rate will be federalized by using existingDavis-Bacon wage rates established by the federalgovernment. Allowing local projects to not use prevailingwage rates is expected to save these units of governmenttax dollars that may be available for continued propertytax reductions or to increases services to local propertytaxpayers.

We are happy to report so many substantial wins that willhelp WBA members, homeowners, potential newhomeowners, and those that may be looking to remodelan existing home.

The recently passed state budget is one more example ofWBA members working hand in hand with fellow WBAmembers and WBA staff members to advocate on behalfof sound public policy changes to improve housing inWisconsin.

Thank you for your past efforts; we are looking forward toworking on additional issues contained in the WBAAdvocacy Agenda in 2015 and 2016.

To enhance the user experience, Kolbe has expanded its onlineArchitect Library to include new and updated 3-D Revit® buildinginformation models (BIM) for Ultra Series and VistaLuxe Collectionproducts. Amongst the new models for the VistaLuxe Collection are the90-degree corner unit, complementary folding doors and foldingwindows.

“Our BIM tools allow architects to view products from differentperspectives, incorporating Kolbe’s vast design options andcustomization within the models for their projects,” says Kolbe’sproduct and market manager, Lance Premeau, LEED® Green Associate.“Intelligence – such as product data and architectural details – can beincorporated into each model to assist in fully coordinated drawings andschedules. These 3-D models make it easier for design professionals to communicatea shared vision with both the builders and the homeowners.”

Enhancing the existing models, Kolbe combined many model attributes from separate models into onecomprehensive family, while reducing the file size. “The smaller file size and the improved flexibilitywithin each model makes them easier to use,” adds Premeau. “Users will experience expandedmetadata in the models for designing their windows and doors to perfectly fit and enhance their projects.”

Premeau explains, “Each Revit product family has been built to eliminate guess-work; built-in parametersensure the maximum dimensions cannot be exceeded. These Revit families have all the metadata builtright in, to schedule powerfully within Revit, right out-of-the-box. Data and resources – like productliterature, specifications, energy data, sustainability information and much more – are accessed with afew clicks of the mouse.”

He continues, “All of this built-in data at your fingertips means your models will have all the informationnecessary to make takeoff and parts lists, generate window and door schedules, installationrequirements, estimated costs, and readily provide interior elevations and other details as needed. Ourgoal is to streamline your workflow, allowing you to work more efficiently.”
