New Educational Opportunity on Sunday Morn-

ing

Sunday, September 13, we will be offer ing a shor t-

term study open to all adults. The study will use the

videos and study guide from Adam Hamilton's The

Call. This study will center on the Calling and Minis-

try of Paul of Tarsus. The study will be led by David

Helm. We will watch the videos and participate in

lively discussion.

"It could reasonably be argued that no other human,

apart from Jesus himself, has had a greater impact on

the world than Paul of Tarsus. His theological reflec-

tions on the meaning of Jesus' life, death, and resur-

rection have had a profound impact upon every

branch of the Christian faith. His missionary journeys

took the gospels across the Roman world. He men-

tored many second-generation Christian leaders.

Thirteen of the New Testament's twenty seven books

are attributed to him, and one-half of the Acts of the

Apostles is devoted to tell-

ing his story."

From the "Introduction" to

The Call by Adam Hamilton

13, at 10:00 am

Where: Room 203 [Second

Our Annual Round-UP BBQ cookoff competition will be a chance to showcase the different ministry areas of our church, and will be held in lieu

of our regularly scheduled Church Council meeting on Sunday, Sept. 20th. Those interested in getting their name forever memorialized as

providing the best BBQ of 2015 should sign up at church or send in their name to the church office--All the money raised with the voting process goes

to providing food for our neighborhood through Kendall-Whittier, Inc.! Committee chairs or delegates should put together a showcase of their

committee's work, so interested newcomers know where they can plug in. Digital format of showcase will be available--first come, first served. Be here at 5pm on Sept. 20th, and Church council, enjoy the afternoon you'd usual-

ly be meeting--it's time to celebrate and have fellowship! Showcase tables can be set up Saturday evening beginning at 6pm, or Sun-

day before worship. Saturday our Narcotics Anonymous chapter is hosting a nationally known speaker and expects to have a large gathering here that day. Congrats to the NA for their successes in establishing a vital and life-

saving group!

One feature of the Season of Crea-

tion this year comes on Humanity Sunday, Sept. 13th, when we'll be

focusing on the story of humanity told particularly in the develop-ment of jazz music. A component

of this day of worship will be an evening hymn study that will be the installment of our quarterly

special evening worship services we've been celebrating in the for-

mat of Taize worship. This time, we'll turn our attention to jazz-inspired hymns. We're familiar

with the Dave Brubeck "Take Five" inspired hymn "Sing of the Lord's

Goodness" from our new hymnal--did you know that our oldest hym-nal has "Come Sunday," by Duke

Ellington? We'll delve into these and more on Sept. 13th at 6pm.
