Welcome to CMIC14In the current business climate in Australia, uncertainty and declining markets have increased pressure on our industry’s operations. Added to this are the expectations of shareholders and owners for business to grow or maintain profitability in a cyclical market.

The last five years have left an indelible mark on society. Financial uncertainty and loss of confidence have forced people to review how they manage their finances as they re-evaluated their own purchasing habits. The emphasis has moved from consumerism to a value equation. As expected this change in thinking has extended to the workplace and the last couple of years have seen a progressive change in the way our customers approach their spending.

The effect is that increasing pressure is being applied to do more with less. All businesses in our industry, small or large, supplier or customer, are reviewing what they are currently doing and looking for improved efficiencies. In effect, they are building their productivity for the next phase of the business cycle.

Once again the Institute of Quarrying Australia (IQA) and Cement Concrete Aggregates Australia (CCAA) have joined forces to present CMIC14 as the preeminent conference for the construction materials industry.

The theme for CMIC14 of “Building Productivity” is core to business thinking today. Whether it is efficiencies in processes, improved offerings to customers, or support tools and business systems for frontline services, each aspect of your business will be challenged by the structured technical program. Supporting this, the conference includes an extensive social program, providing an excellent forum to meet with suppliers, peers, customers and friends and solve problems both local and global.

Stakeholder expectations are changing.

The business environment is changing.

Can you afford not having the most current contacts and ideas?

Why you need to attend

An engaging and thought-provoking program for CMIC14 has been structured around identifying some of the broader trends and challenges as well as outlining opportunities, potential solutions and case studies to assist you to build productivity within your own organisation.

We have assembled a terrific cast of speakers

Senior industry leaders from Australia and overseas, high-profile “big picture” thinkers on broad social, political and economic trends, and leading experts in technology set the scene from a range of perspectives, outlining the ‘facts’, presenting the challenges and outlining some of what they see as opportunities moving forward.

Accompanying this are technical and functional experts covering a range of territory – such as innovation, skills development, technology, environment, health and safety; together with our practical speakers who have a story to tell about productivity in their own company and in the construction materials industry.

Our program goes beyond just the speakers

This year we have featured the exhibition by opening it for a full day prior to the commencement of the conference and introduced full & half-day passes for it. As part of this initiative, short technical talks are also scheduled in this forum to provide the best opportunity for a broad range of people to access key suppliers in the one location and to hear what their latest innovations are.

Therefore, the conference will provide you the opportunity to gain insights for building productivity in your own operations, whilst also giving you a chance to reflect on broader industry issues and why the construction materials industry is so important for building Australia’s productivity, and our nation’s prosperity.

We are providing you with the best opportunity for you to identify the challenges, learn about the latest innovations and plan for your business future.

CMIC14 will be held on the iconic Southbank in the heart of Brisbane at the Brisbane Convention Centre, from Wednesday 3 – Saturday 6 September, 2014.

I look forward to seeing you there.

Kind Regards

David CilentoChairman CMIC14 Organising Committee
