The weekend after Labor Day, LosAlamitos Race Course will rock theopening of its second daytimeThoroughbred racing meet of2014. Post time for the firstrace each day will be 2 p.m.
For eleven days overthree weeks, magnificenthorses and their riders willthrill audiences starting onFriday, Sept. 5 and racingThursday through Sundayuntil Sept. 21 — with manyracing days boasting a fat pursein the five or six figures!
Saturday, Sept. 6, will be a standout inthat stellar line-up — not only will home-grown California Chrome work out betweenthe third and fourth races that day, but thebiggest purse will be on the line in the LosAlamitos Mile stakes race.
And at the end of that Saturday’s heart-pumping action, Kenny Metcalf as Elton willlead an Elton John tribute concert.
Los Alamitos Race Course rocks this September!
Hometown HeroAfter finding his footing underjockey Victor Espinoza,
California Chrome burnedup race courses from SanFelipe to Santa Anita —then went East to winthe legendary KentuckyDerby and Preakness.
Chrome has spenttime since the Belmont
Stakes race resting andrecovering from a hoof injury
that may have cost him theTriple Crown. But he’s back in tip-top
shape — his workout is sure to wow thecrowd as he and his rider look forward to afull Fall racing schedule.
What’s at stakeIn horse racing, a stakes race requires the
horses’ owners to pony up money to run.Consequently, the best horses run in
stakes races — but the level of difficulty inthis type of race ranges from locally low tosky-high nationally graded stakes races.
Early Elton JohnKenny Metcalf as Elton & The Early Years
Band were recently hand-picked to befeatured on Mark Cuban and Ryan Seacrest'snetwork AXS TV show The World’s GreatestTribute Bands.
They wowed a national audience duringtheir live-to-air performance at The Roxy inHollywood, and are known for performing atechnically accurate Vegas-style production, featuring the wildly popular music, costumesand antics of early-years Elton John.
