Arts, Culture and Heritage Funding Opportunities Heritage Lottery Fund - Funding for anniversaries

The HLF will make awards totalling at least £10m over the next four years to fund projects exploring the heritage of some of the UK’s most important anniversaries.

The money will be invested to ensure that those moments which form a central part of our national history are commemorated and understood by people today.

This new emphasis for their funding reflects the fact there is enormous enthusiasm to provide more opportunities to foster the sense of community spirit and national pride that anniversaries, such as the Diamond Jubilee, can inspire.

If you are considering a project in the next few years, it might highlight important historical dates that will resonate with people and communities across the UK. For example:

The centenary of Dylan Thomas’ birth The 800th anniversary of the Magna Carta The Bicentenary of the Battle of Waterloo 150th anniversary of Beatrix Potter’s birth 50 years since England won the football World Cup 50 years since the first solo sailing circumnavigation of the world from west to east

HLF can provide funding to help groups, communities and organisations mark these anniversaries by exploring, conserving and sharing their heritage. They are offering grants from £3,000 - £10,000, £10,000 - £100,000 and £100,000 upwards.

For more information please call the anniversaries enquiry line on 020 7591 6044, email: [email protected]. Alternatively please contact your local HLF office.

Grants for the arts Libraries fund The Grants for the arts Libraries fund will invest £6 million of the Arts Council's Grants for the arts National Lottery money in projects delivered by public libraries or library authorities working in partnership with cultural organisations across all art forms. It is hoped that the Grants for the arts Libraries fund will inspire ambitious, innovative partnerships between libraries and arts organisations, and encourage library users and those living locally to take part in artistic and cultural activities.

Public libraries can apply for grants of between £1,000 and £100,000 covering activities lasting up to three years. Apply via an online application system on the website. Contact: National Service Centre, The Hive, 49 Lever Street, Manchester M1 1FN Tel: 0845 300 6200 or via the enquiry form on the website

Foyle Foundation - Arts The Foundation seeks applications that make a strong artistic case for support in either the

performing or visual arts. Their Arts programme has a twofold purpose to help sustain the arts and to support projects that particularly help to deliver artistic vision. They look for value for money and sustainability in projects that they support. Typical areas of support include:

helping to make the arts more accessible by developing new audiences, supporting tours, festivals and arts educational projects;

encouraging new work and supporting young and emerging artists; building projects that improve or re-equip existing arts venues (rather than construction of new

facilities, although this will not be excluded); projects that reduce overheads or which help generate additional revenue. Generally, they make grants for specific projects/activities. Please note that community arts activity will not generally be supported.

Application Form: Available to download from the website. There is a separate application form for small grants of between £1,000 and £10,000.

BIG - Reaching Communities

Reaching Communities funds projects that help people and communities who are most in need, and can really make a difference. It funds revenue projects of between £10,000 and £500,000 and/or capital projects up to £50,000. Projects can be new or existing activities, or be the core work of your organisation. They want to fund projects that respond to needs identified by communities, and those that fund projects that help those most in need including those people or groups who are hard to reach. They want to encourage the following changes to communities as a result of their funding: people having better chances in life, including being able to get better access to training and development to improve their life skills strong communities, with more active citizens, working together to tackle their problems improved rural and urban environments, which communities are better able to access and enjoy healthier and more active people and communities. Reaching Communities has proven to be a popular and highly competitive programme. Sadly, they have had to turn down some very good projects. You should note the high levels of interest in this programme and consider whether your project would be better suited to another Big Lottery Fund programme. Supporting disadvantaged young people

Supporting those frail or lonely through old age or disability.

Grant Applications

There is an on line eligibility check. Regrettably, due to overwhelming demand, unsolicited appeals are extremely unlikely to attract a grant in connection with salaries, general running costs or major capital projects. Applications can be submitted at any time. The Directors meet quarterly and applicants will be notified when their appeal is to be considered. Applications are currently being accepted for consideration at the trustees' meeting in December 2014. Provides essential items for children and young people whose development, health and well-being are at risk. It offers basic items, that we all take for granted but many families in poverty are living without, such as a bed, a cooker, a fridge-freezer or a washing machine.
