Congratulations to Summer Readers!The Library would like to congratulate all of the children who participated in the “One World, Many Stories” Summer Reading Program. Approximately 200 children from ages 3 ½ – 10 registered for the program, agreeing to read at least 15 minutes a day. Each week children recorded over 200 hours of reading time during the 7 week program! The Library would like to thank the sponsors who made the program possible: RI Office of Library and Information Services, Institute of Museum and Library Services, RI McDonald’s Restaurants, the Friends of the Greenville Public Library, the Smithfield YMCA, the Pawtucket Red Sox, Citizens Bank, and Pepsi-Cola.

A special thank you goes out to the teachers and staff at Anna McCabe School and Winsor School for holding storytimes at the library this summer. Students enjoyed seeing those familiar faces during the summer and loved all the books and crafts that were shared! The program was a great addition to our regular programming.

Disney on Ice PromotionPatrons are invited to take a chance to win a raffle for tickets to the Disney on Ice Show, Dare to Dream, being presented at the Dunkin’ Donuts Center from September 14-18. Just drop by the Children’s Room and enter your name to win a voucher for four tickets to any weekday performance except the Friday evening one. A winner win be drawn on September 10. Please, one entry per person.

Storytime RegistrationRegistration for the fall series of storytime will take place from September 26-Oct.1. Storytimes for children from ages 1½ to 2½ will be held Mondays at 10:15 or 11:15 am; for ages 2 ½ - 3 ½, Fridays at 10:15 or 11:15; for ages 3½ - K, Wednesdays at 10:30 am or 1:15 pm. Sessions will begin October 3. Pre-registration is required for all storytimes and may be done by phone or in person. Please call 949-3630 ext. 3.

Who Turned the Lights Out?Children ages 6-10 are invited to the library on Monday, September 19 at 4 pm, to make a switch plate cover. Children will decorate a switch plate cover to take home and brighten up their room! Registration for this craft begins on September 1.

Bryant University TutorsThe Greenville Public Library and Bryant University are once again participating in a Federal Work-Study Program as part of the America Reads Challenge to provide Reading Tutors to elementary school children who would like extra help in improving their reading and comprehension skills. It is our hope to once again team several elementary students in the community with a Bryant student involved in the program. Students will be matched up on a first-come, first-served basis. Applications have been available in the Children’s Room of the Library since mid August, so please call 949-3630 ext. 3 to check on availability. The program is scheduled to begin in September.

Children’s Room BubbleEmily Rawlinson will display her purse collection in the Children’s Room Bubble for September. Seven-year-old Emily has been collecting purses since she was three. Emily enjoys collecting purses because she “likes girly and sparkly stuff.” Don’t miss checking out Emily’s stylish collection!

YA Department News School Center Reopens

The new school year is starting on Tuesday, August 30 and so will the Baker After School Center. The After School Center is open Monday - Thursday 2:00 - 6:00 pm and Fridays 2:00 - 5:00 pm. No advanced signup is required. The center has 16 computers and tables for projects, homework, crafts and games. It provides a great place for mid-dle and high school students (ages 11-18) to hang out, do homework with staff help, and participate in fun activities.

Video Gaming FunWe will kick off the year with a video game party on Tuesday, August 30 from 2:30 to5:30. If you are between the ages of 11-18, come and play some of your favorite Wii and Xbox games at the library. You can use games provided by the library or bring your own. Starting in September come and join us every Monday from 2:30 to 5:30.

Want to personalize it? Drop in to the After School Center any time between 2:30 ñ 5:00 on Thursday, September 1st. Bring your creativity! Still not satisfi ed with how it looks? Come again on Thursday, September 8th for a different locker craft.
