Niels Lan Doky recently returned to Denmark after 29 years abroad, to reopen Jazzhus Montmartre with his friend Rune Bech. His homecoming was marked with the release of his widely acclaimed album ´Return To Denmark´ which quickly earned its well-deserved reputation as one of his best albums ever. The album features the new and now all-Danish Niels Lan Doky Trio with Doky’s longtime associate and on drums, the amazing and ultra-le- gendary Alex Riel, and Denmark’s newest bass star, the incredible Morten Ramsbøl. Poul Halberg (guitar / DK), Hans Ulrik (saxophones / DK), Frans Bak (keyboards / DK), Bo Stief (bass / DK), Alex Riel (drums / DK) One of the most enduring jazz/fusion bands in Denmark was the band called Santa Cruz formed in the early 1980s. Santa Cruz has remained one of Alex Riel’s all time favorite bands to play with and it was therefore essential for him to include it in this milestone birthday celebration. The band is as active today as ever and still has some of its original key members in it including keyboard player/ composer Frans Bak, guitarist Poul Halberg and of course Alex Riel himself behind the drums. The current line-up is completed by an all-star cast of some the most celebrated and creative musicians in Denmark today, saxophonist Hans Ulrik and bass legend Bo Stief. During one of their first tours, Weather Report actually played right here at the Montmartre. A powerful and multi-cultural cast of five of Copenhagen’s most prolific musicians now join their forces to revisit some of the most iconic tunes of the jazz/fusion era, from timeless Weather Report albums such as “Mr. Gone”, “Black Market”, “Heavy Weather”, “Tale Spinnin’” and others. Lisa Nilsson (vocal / SE), João Castilho (guitar / BR), Sebastian Notini (percussion / SE) It’s hard to imagine a Scandinavian vocalist who is more loved and admired than Swe- den’s Lisa Nilsson. Since her major breakthrough in the early 1990s she has relentlessly and continuously compelled, inspired and deeply moved audiences all over Scandina- via and beyond, and mastering a variety of music genres. We are incredibly proud to welcome Lisa for her first engagement in the newly reopened Montmartre, especially as we consider her a part of the family, since she was one of the lead characters in Niels Lan Doky’s feature documentary film from 2005 “Between a Smile and a Tear” which pioneered the idea of a reopened Montmartre here in Store Regnegade.
