As our college students are getting settled into a new year and probably new places

to live, please send updated snail mail and email addresses to Cindy Thompson at

256-428-9411 or [email protected]. Benefits of an accurate address? Encouragement

notes and care boxes from their home church (US! - First Baptist Huntsville).

We are enlisting tutors for our ministry to Lakewood Elementary for the 2012-2013

school year. We have a new volunteer coordinator who will be assessing the

children to see where tutors are needed. Some have expressed concern about the

students having tablet computers this year. They will not impact your tutoring. We

continue to use the methods of one-on-one tutoring with reading and math. At the welcome center and in our Sunday School

boxes there will be tutoring brochures. Please fill them out and turn them into the church office with your records or return

to Mike Pearce or Linda Horn. If you have questions please contact Mike Pearce at

Renovation Update - September 2012 The contractor continues to operate slightly ahead of schedule and great progress is being made each day.

The outside of the building is nearing completion. The EFIS band at the top of the structure is complete along with the brick work. The EFIS contractor also installed material inside the future “courtyard”. The west glass wall in the Gathering Place has now been completed, along with the concreted area just outside the doors. The contractor has poured some curbing and sidewalks for the St. Clair parking lot. They will next

move the various trailers and trucks away from the lot, excavate, place gravel, and apply the base coat of asphalt. Final paving is scheduled later in October. The contractor wants to eliminate the muddy areas now because carpet installation is scheduled to begin mid-September! Building letters (First Baptist Church) will soon be installed across the exterior of the Student Center. The letters have an LED backlighting feature that will give a halo effect at night. Other final details such as exterior light fixtures, exterior metal “shades” and fire alarm bells have been installed, and the front entry cover for the Admin Suite should be installed around mid-month.

Inside the building, finish work continues. Final coats of paint are being applied, and some touch-up is underway for the drywall. Trim work is being installed and stained. The ceiling grid is installed everywhere except in the kitchen. The tile work has been completed everywhere except the kitchen and is underway there now. The commercial grade range hood and some cabinets have been installed in the kitchen. Cabinets have also been installed in the Student Center classrooms, and vinyl tile work will begin in the classrooms within the next couple of weeks. The gathering and worship areas in the Student Center will have stained concrete floors. The contractor plans to begin carpet installation around mid-month, starting in the second floor fitness room and then moving throughout the facility. The Life Center, which will be carpeted last with a special “sports carpet”, has several different colors that will create lines for sports and the walking track. The millwork contractor has been working on the desks in the welcome areas and the large columns in the Gathering Place. Restroom countertops have been installed and most of the fixtures set. Partitions should be installed within the next two weeks. Door frame hardware has been painted, and the doors will be hung later this month. The building is now secure as all the exterior doors have been installed. The electrical contractor has most of the final wiring and breaker panels installed and is making the transition from temporary power to the permanent transformer. The final lighting has been installed in most areas and is now in use by the finish crews. The stages in the Life Center and Student Center are getting final touches. Hand rails for the Student Center mezzanine stairs are scheduled to be installed within the next couple of weeks along with some railings in the fire escape stairwell. The elevator has been installed and will provide easy access between the ground level and second floor on the west end of the campus. Only two months remain before project completion!

Do you know someone who is struggling with life? Do you have a friend who is currently overwhelmed by the challenges of everyday living? Last Sunday I began a message series that deals with the difficult seasons facing many of us. Each week we look at one of these problem areas and then we see the Good News that God offers to help us meet these challenges.

Messages like these make great opportunities for you to invite your friend to come to church with you. I offer

these sermons not only to help you but as a way to reach out to folks who need to hear the Good News. Will you help your friend by inviting him/her to join us for worship?

Here is the schedule for these messages to help you as you invite:
