STEWARDSHIP AWARENESS SUNDAY – September 25, 2016

GOD SHOWERS HIS MERCY

ON US

Prayer + Participation + Generosity RECEIVING THE GIFT AND SAYING “THANK YOU!” When someone gives you a gift, it’s natural to say “thank you,” right? For most people, gratitude is the first response to generosity. Saying “thank you” is just what we do with our friends and family. And we’re called to do the same with God! Wouldn’t it be rude to say, “Yes, I deserve this gift”? Of course. But sometimes that’s how we respond to God’s generosity. We take the gifts we’ve been given for granted and forget to express our thanks. The first step in stewardship is to recognize God’s grace and generosity in our lives. The next step is to say “thank you” by responding with generosity to others – to share the blessings we have received from God.

Marriage Encounter: Are you thinking about your summer vacation? A Marriage Encounter weekend, away from all the distractions in your life right now, would be the best vacation of your life. You will always remember this weekend away as a great time alone and a time you found more strength in your marriage. To find out more and apply for a weekend on September 23-25, call 314.649.7317 or go to www.stl-wwme.org.

Dynamic Catholic, Alive! – The Joy of the Gospel Are we truly joyful Christians? Do we rejoice at the great gift of faith, forgiveness, and love that we have discovered in our encounter with Jesus? It doesn’t take much to rob us of real joy—indifference, ingratitude, lukewarmness, and spiritual laziness. But it also doesn’t take much to rediscover the treasure we sometimes lose through our own negligence. Take time to safeguard your joy, and celebrate when you find it again! TODAY – ANNUAL FALL FESTIVAL!

A WARM WELCOME TO ALL OUR VISITORS!

ENJOY THE DAY!

"Prayer: The Faith Prayed" This year, the Church will celebrate Catechetical Sunday on September 18, 2016 and will focus on the theme "Prayer: The Faith Prayed." Those who the Community has designated to serve as catechists will be called forth to be commissioned for their ministry. Catechetical Sunday is a wonderful opportunity to reflect on the role that each person plays, by virtue of Baptism, in handing on the faith and being a witness to the Gospel. Catechetical Sunday is an opportunity for all to rededicate themselves to this mission as a community of faith.

KNIGHTS OF COLUMBUS NEWS: CHICKEN & BEEF DINNERS –will be Oct. 2, 2016. Serving is from 10:30 am to 2:00 pm (unless they run out!) Your support is very much appreciated! Desserts & Workers are always needed. Please help if you can!

St. Joachim School

“Your Future Begins With Us” News from St. Joachim School

Mission Statement The mission of St. Joachim Catholic School is to assist the parents and parish community in the shared responsibility of providing an excellent religious and academic education that is Alive in Christ for the children of Washington County. HAPPY FALL FESTIVAL WEEKEND. St. Joachim staff and students are looking forward to this great weekend. Students plan to work in the dining area with their principal along with students in PSR and teachers. Together the dining room is a great success. Students will also be active outside with the games and helping parents in booths. CLEAN UP is scheduled for Monday, Sept 12 and students may wear their old clothes to help with cleaning. Students will have lunch then parents will pick them up at 12:00. I would like to take time to thank everyone that worked towards the cutting and removing of the huge pine tree growing next to the school. The tree was causing root problems towards the school and could have possible interfered with the well. I was very hesitant about the removal, but Lloyd Dickinson and Bill Portell led the fall of the tree. After sitting a while and trying to make a memory from the tree, I was contacted by Steve Merx wanting to know my plans and how he could help. The tree is now 2 beautiful benches (displayed in Father Tony's yard), a bear and a replica of St. Joachim Church. How great is that? The benches were delivered this week. Thanks to Steve Merx, David Merx, Jim Merx, Mark Bequette, Paul Koch, K. T. Thebeau, and Ronnie Thebeau and their dedication. They accumulated almost 100 hours to complete the project. GREAT JOB! Many thanks also to Robert of R&M feed for grinding the stump. Advisory Board Meeting: Tuesday, Sept. 13 at 6:30 Picture Retakes Wednesday, Sept. 14 Mid quarter Friday, Sept. 16 God Bless our visitors and enjoy!

UPCOMING MEETINGS AND IMPORTANT CALENDAR DATES:

Sept. 12 – Fall Festival clean-up (HELP!) Sept. 13 – Mission Committee Mtg. – 9 am Sept. 13 – St. Anne Sodality Mtg. – 6 pm Sept. 13 – School Advisory Board Mtg. – 6:30 pm Sept. 14 – Knight of Columbus Men’s Mtg. – 7 pm Sept. 21 – Knights of Columbus Ladies Auxiliary – 6:30 pm Sept. 25 – 29 – MISSION: HEARTS ON FIRE Sept. 26 – St. Vincent de Paul Mtg. – 9 am THIS WEEK’S READINGS:

“This man welcomes sinners and eats with them.” This criticism of Jesus is actually unintentional praise. If we are honest, we know that we are among the sinners with whom Jesus breaks bread. As we listen to God’s holy word today, let us hear these stories of God’s mercy and love in all three readings, and think of the times in our own lives when we were in need of such mercy. Then let us give thanks for our merciful God.

QUESTION OF THE WEEK: Grateful for experiencing God’s mercy myself, to whom should I reach out this week to offer my interest, kindness, understanding, maybe even forgiveness?

SOCCER SCHEDULE: Saturday, Sept. 17 - 9 am at St. Agnes (Bloomsdale) against St. Agnes Saturday, Sept. 24 - 10 am in DeSoto against St. Rose Saturday, Oct. 1 - 10 am at St. Joachim soccer field (old ball field) against St. Joe Saturday, October 8th - tournament at Engler Park/Farmington. Game times still to be determined.

ATTENTION: ALL CURRENT MILITARY AND VETERANS Our Annual Fall Festival falls on the 15th Anniversary of September 11th. In an effort to remember this day, those that responded and all of our military, we will be having a special flag raising ceremony. All active duty military, veterans and first responders who wish to participate are asked to arrive at the main raffle booth no later than 10:45am for instructions (uniforms optional). All are invited!

Archbishop Carlson has asked us to have a second collection next weekend to help the more than 106,000 people affected by the devastating floods in Louisiana.

The Old Mines Community Education Trust (OMCET) will be having a meeting on Sunday, September 18, 2016, following the 10 am Mass. Meeting will be held in the school cafeteria.
