WELCOME MESSAGE
Hiroyuki Miyake
General Chair, ICEAB 2011
Professor, The University of Kitakyushu, Japan
Unforgettable date 3.11 of 2011!
On the very day, unprecedented big sized earthquake hit eastern Japan. All of buildings like houses and factories in seaside areas were destroyed by Tsunami at all, which recalled aged persons the evoking of urban fields hit and damaged by US air force’s bombs during the second world.
Fukushima 1st nuclear power plant was destroyed by Tsunami, and radioactivity inside was leaked. It gave a massive of damages to human-being. A lot of people gave up to maintain their own lands, houses and agriculture. My colleague is one of victims. He is an active farmer to be engaged in natural farming. According to his ideas, Natural Farming is a best method to save our earth and enable to make a society with sustainable development. He had stayed in Bangladesh to teach eco-friendly agriculture in one of big NGOs called PROSHIKA and expand it as well as Thailand. He suddenly understood to keep and develop his NF because of leakage of radioactivity from power plant, which forced him and his family to migrate to Mie prefecture. Now, he is going around Japan to stop use of nuclear power point.
The above case showed how difficult both nature and human-being respect each other and exist. Some Japanese researchers say why we, Japanese accepted the use of nuclear power plant easily in spite of the fact that we have experienced 3 times’ radiation exposal (atomic bombed at Hiroshima/ Nagasaki and Dai 5 Fukuryu-maru exposed to radiation by thermonuclear test at Bikini Atoll).
Facing such difficulty in Japan, we came here to hold International Conference on Environmental Aspects of Bangladesh 2011 at Kitakyushu, Japan. So, as General Chair, I request all of the participants in this conference to reconsider about environment carefully and acquire real eco-friendly mind and behavior by listening to others’ presentation, and active discussion beyond country border. I hope this conference will become helpful and fruitful.

WELCOME MESSAGE
Suehiro Otoma
General Chair, ICEAB 2011
Professor, Graduate School of Environmental Engineering, The University of Kitakyushu, Japan
It is my great pleasure to welcome you to the International Conference on Environmental Aspects of Bangladesh & the World (ICEAB) and Kitakyushu City. As you may know, the city is proud of having overcome serious environmental pollutions to have long distressed the residents, in cooperation with industry, Government, and residents. I believe the city is one of the most eligible places where the conference takes place to address environment-related issues in Bangladesh and the world.
I have been a research engineer of environmental management for almost 40 years, and have had the opportunity over this period to attend numerous conferences in Japan and other countries but none of them focused mainly on the environment of Bangladesh. It is obvious that the environmental deterioration is related not only to technical issues but also largely to social and economic issues. Then participation of experts from a diversity of both academic and business fields is the most important for discussion in the Conference to reach practical and effective outcomes on the environment. I am sure this conference will be such a fruitful one, since various kinds of experts are expected to participate and intensively tackle together Bangladesh's environment.
I hope that this conference will help you better understand the environment aspects of Bangladesh and the world and obtain the knowledge for further investigation of it. We truly value your participation and contribution to the conference.

It is my great pleasure and honor to welcome you to the 2nd International Conference on Environmental Aspects of Bangladesh 2011 (ICEAB11), September 10~11, 2011 at the University of Kitakyushu, Japan. The 1st International Conference on Environmental Aspects of Bangladesh 2010 (ICEAB10) and the International Symposium on Environmental Aspects of Bangladesh & Japan (ISEABJ) was held on 2010 and 2009 respectively. The ICEAB provides vibrant opportunities for researchers, industry practitioners, volunteers, students and fellow citizens to share their research experiences, research results, ideas, review of various aspects and practical development experiences on environmental aspects of Bangladesh (specifically), Japan and other regions.
ICEAB11 has a strong working committee, having more than 135 members from 22 different countries. After rigorous peer-review process and registration, we finally publish 61 full papers in the proceedings from more than 11 countries. I am very glad to inform you that Md. Abdul Wahab, Bangladesh Agricultural University, Bangladesh will give the keynote speech on Climate Change Impacts on Fisheries and Aquaculture in Bangladesh: A Story of Struggle for Existence. Eight distinguished Invited Speakers will deliver expert talks. I cordially thank Satoquo Seino (Kyushu University), Kiyoshi Omine (Kyushu University), Taka Watanabe (Tokyo Institute of Technology), Kazuya Yasuhara (Ibaraki University), Nazrul Islam (Coordinator of BEN, USA), Yukihiko Nakata (Ritsumeikan Asia-Pacific University), Bart Dewancker (University of Kitakyushu), and Takashi Okayasu (Kyushu University) for their kind time and presences.
Some of the members of the organizing committee have given excellent efforts for this conference. I am really grateful to them. I would like to thank especially to the General Chairs – Hiroyuki Miyake and Suehiro Otoma for their relentless effort. Similar to ICEAB10, H. Miyake has given splendid efforts for the ICEAB11 too. My special gratitude goes to Mohammad Riazul Islam (Program Secretary) and Zahid Parvez Sukhan (Publication Secretary) for their multi-purpose abilities with real-sincerity. ICEAB11 is better due to their excellent commitments and relentless efforts. The wonderful proceedings and its design, cover, etc. are fully managed by the sheer commitment from Zahid Parvez Sukhan. Kazi Kamrul Islam, Md. Tawhidul Islam Khan, Md. Azizul Moqsud and Zahid Parvez Sukhan worked well to manage the review process.

Kamal worked hard for various management issues throughout the conference commencement and preparation. For food and drinks, Mohammad Riazul Islam and S. M. Ashik Eftakhar worked hard for a nicer arrangement with others. To manage registration issues, Mohammad Anisuzzaman and Abdullah-Al-Mahin did praise-worthy jobs for the conference.
Special thanks to Shaikh Tanveer Hossain and Md. Jashim Uddin for their kind supports to manage the awards and bring these with them from Bangladesh. Many others also supported and helped the conference – to make it better.
Thanks to Microsoft Research for allowing us to use their Conference Management system for ICEAB. I thank to the University of Kitakyushu, Kitagata campus for hosting the conference and providing necessary materials. I would like to thank Mr. Fukuda and the West Japan Industry and Trade Convention Association to help the ICEAB and providing supports.
Selected papers will be invited to submit upgraded works for the International Journal of Environment (IJE) http://benjapan.org/IJE - however, anyone can submit his/her good works for the IJE.
I hope that BENJapan & BEN members around the World, and conference participants will work together to make this conference a successful one; and will exchange ideas, make collaboration on research and development, so that more people get benefit from the outcome of the conference. A good effort has been done to organize the conference in a profound manner and for any mistakes, on behalf of the ICEAB11, I would like request you to forgive and inform, so that we can do it better in coming years based on your sincere feedback.
Lets work for a better world, a better environment-friendly world – so that all human beings and the living entities can survive here in peace and mutual respect.
Looking forward to see you in future!

WELCOME MESSAGE
Md. Riazul Islam, PhD
Program Secretary, ICEAB 2011
Assistant Professor, University of Dhaka, Bangladesh
It is my great privilege to welcome you in the Second International Conference on Environmental Aspects of Bangladesh, 2011. After successful completion of the first conference in 2010, we were really encouraged to hold this event in every year to share our research views, knowledge and experiences. Environmental issue is one of the burning issues right now. And Bangladesh, one of the developing countries in the world, is suffering a lot due to this environmental crisis, though they are not solely responsible for the causes. However, I hope that through this conference we can make some recommendation that may help us to create a fearless sustainable environment for the future generation. In this conference, we received a total of 183 articles in four areas from different researchers around the world. We reviewed the articles through our expert reviewers’ panel and with the help of four area secretaries who synchronized the reviewing process most cautiously. I really would like to thank them for their great efforts. After reviewing the articles, we could accept 76 articles with different grade of revisions for the proceedings. And finally we received 61 articles for the conference proceedings. We would like to thank all the authors for submitting their articles in this conference. Due to the fund constriction we couldn’t provide any support to the participants for transportation and accommodation. However, upon request, we waived few participants’ registration fee partially or fully to encourage their participation in the conference. I hope the selected articles have high impacts and you can enjoy the lectures, the talks and finally the chance to share your knowledge. I would like to thank all the members in the organizing committee who have worked very hard for the conference and all the reviewers for evaluating the articles. Through all your efforts and contribution, I believe that this conference can provide a guideline towards the theme of the conference.

MESSAGE
Dr. Nazrul Islam Global Coordinator Bangladesh Environment Network (BEN)
I am very happy that, inspired by the success of ICEAB 2010, BENJapan has decided to make ICEAB (International Conference on Environmental Aspects of Bangladesh) an annual event, and is now holding ICEAB 2011. I am very glad to know that a large number of scholars are participating in it from Bangladesh, Japan, and other countries of the world. I am sure that the collection of papers presented and discussed at this conference will be as impressive as was at ICEAB 2010.
I am very glad that this time I will be able to join ICEAB. This will give me an opportunity to meet with BENJapan members and other participants of the conference and learn from them.
The fact that non-resident Bangladeshis (NRB) in Japan, under the leadership of BENJapan, are making this extraordinary effort is of enormous significance. It speaks of the advancement and maturity that Bangladesh as a nation is attaining over time. Political events of the country may not always reflect this progress, but that inability cannot negate this progress. I hope that all Bangladeshis will know about ICEAB and feel inspired by it.
As I mentioned in my message to ICEAB 2010, Bangladesh has much to learn from Japan with regard to both pollution reduction and wider development strategy. As recommended in the BAPA-BEN resolution on urbanization adopted at the conference held in January 2011, Bangladesh may follow the Japanese model of compact and energy efficient urbanization, based on train and other modes of public transportation, rather than the North American model of energy inefficient urban sprawl. Bangladeshi scholars studying in Japan can serve as an important conduit in transmitting to Bangladesh the useful lessons from the Japanese experience of development. I hope ICEAB 2011 will play an important role in gathering and marshalling those lessons.
I am glad to see the wide participation of Japanese scholars in ICEAB 2011. Many of them are very dedicated to Bangladesh. Taking this opportunity I would like to thank them sincerely. I know that organizing such a conference requires dedicated effort and cooperation of many individuals and organizations. I would like to thank them all for their noble effort. I wish ICEAB 2011 all-round success!
