cipal, Quynh Trueblood, is here tostay. It is apparent even from thewell-thought-out décor in her of-fice. Already, before school is insession she is trying to learn everystudent’s name and face. Her hand-shake is kind but firm, coordinatingperfectly with her personality, which she will need to run our vil-lage school.

Utilizing a different approachthan past administrations, Mrs.Trueblood is not hoping to makelarge changes. Rather, she wants tokeep advancing on the changes wehave already made, continually im-proving the quality of the educa-tion that Kohler High studentsreceive and the environment inwhich they receive it.

Communications, too, shehopes will proceed more fluidlyduring this upcoming year. Withthe new early release and “BomberHour” schedules, teachers and ad-ministration will have more time toget each other on the same pagewhile discussing their plans and ac-tions. Long gone are the overlap-ping scheduling woes ofconflicting clubs. Clubs now willbe given a special time slot duringschool hours so that students canbe more organized and fit moreinto their academic lives.

While her experiencehas been in larger Sheboyganschools, she looks forward tosmaller-scale Kohler. She enjoyshow closely-knit the community isand appreciates that in a smallerschool, she will have the opportu-nity to personally know everymember of the student body.

Outside of her work, Truebloodenjoys cooking for her family. Ifshe had to pick another career shewould love to be an experimentalfood stylist. Her love for aestheticsmakes her particularly partial to thearts. She believes that a well-rounded education should consistof sciences and math equally offsetby the arts and literature.

As our first woman principal ina very long while, Quynh Trueblood is a breath of fresh air.She brings with her a great workethic, a good sense of humor, andan understanding and compassion-

Occasionally, Kohler residentsor students studying journalismask if they can have a regular col-umn in The Kohler Villager. Thereare a number of reasons why Ihave to turn down these requests, however, anyone is welcome tosubmit a guest article or two at anytime.

The publication date of guestarticles or columns will depend onwhen enough space is available.

The Kohler Villager’s policy re-garding press releases or articlesthat promote a business, are thatthe business must be a new busi-ness in Kohler; or a new businessstarted by a Kohler resident; or anybusiness that supports The Kohler

Villager through advertising. Thispolicy must be adhered to due tothe number of press releases thatare received on a daily bases frombusinesses and organizations seek-ing publicity. Each page of thenewspaper costs money to com-pile, print, bundle and mail. Be-cause The Kohler Villager isadvertiser supported – meaning itdoes not charge a subscription feeto readers – the number of pages ineach issue depend upon the num-ber of ads that are placed for thatissue. Fewer ads mean fewerpages, and fewer pages mean lessroom for content.

LKC High School Football movingforwardSubmitted by Lisa M Bocchini

When LKC(Lutheran/Kohler/Christian) Foot-ball team announced it was drop-ping its Varsity Football Programfor the 2012-13 season, and onlyplay a Junior Varsity schedule, many people were skepticalwhether the program would sur-vive long term. Early indications, show just the opposite.

Last year the team started withjust 29 players 21 of them beingFreshmen and Sophomores. Withonly 8 returning upper classmen,Head Coach Matt Zavada broughtthe idea of going with a JV sched-ule for one season, with the plan toreturn to varsity in the 2013-14season. Coach Zavada's majorconcern was the health of ouryoung athletes. So far the decisionis paying off.

Practice kicked off August 6thwith 49 players showing up forpractice including 24 Freshmen.Instead of just a JV schedule, theteam will be able to play both aJunior Varsity and Freshmenschedule, giving the players plentyof football this fall.

Although Friday night games

are difficult to get, the team willstill play 2 Friday night gamesagainst a team from KenoshaChristian.

Kohler will celebrate its home-coming week with a game FridayOctober 12th at Ebben Field.

The future of the program alsolooks bright with approximately 45players on this fall’s 7th/8th gradeteam. They may not play every Fri-day night but it will be worth com-ing out and seeing them playduring the week.

Erin Lammers. We have a greatteam atmosphere and we have funtogether. The team motto is “Atti-tude is everything” and it certainlyshows in the team. The girls are al-ways ready to do anything pre-sented to them at practice or a meetand the whole team is down at theend of the pool cheering the swim-mers on. The girls came in secondin Conference this year, only be-hind Plymouth. They also came in9th of 12 swimming Div. 1 at sec-tionals. The team is looking for-ward to another great season andhopes to host some meets in the fu-ture.

Soccer program’s successextends beyond high school

Everyone in the village is awareof the success of the boys highschool soccer program. The BlueBomber boys have racked up manyawards over the past five years in-cluding three conference champi-onships, five regional champion-ships, a sectional championshipand state runner up last year. Whatyou may not know is that severalplayers have taken their highschool experience and successwith them into college. Currentlythere are four soccer alumni play-ing college ball:

AJ Armstrong (Class of 2007)plays defender for WisconsinLutheran College. He was a teamcaptain and key player when theBlue Bombers went an undefeated14-0 to win the Central LakeshoreConference (CLC) in 2007.

Kevin Beine (Class of 2009)plays for St. Norbert’s College. Hewas a team captain and secondteam All Conference defender forKohler in last year’s run to state.

Jimmy Mani (Class of 2007)plays for UW Sheboygan and wasrecently named 2nd team All Con-

ference in the Wisconsin Colle-giate Conference. Jimmy was theCLC leading scorer in 2007 for theBombers. He also received 1stteam All Conference and All State(Honorable Mention) honors.

Austin Van Treeck (Class of2009) plays for Ripon College andhas two goals and an assist in hisfirst year playing college ball.Austin was the conference leadingscorer last year and an All Confer-ence selection for the BlueBombers.

Austin recently sat down tofeild some questions about his col-lege experience so far:

What is it like to play soccer atthe college level?

“Playing soccer at the collegelevel is everything I dreamed itwould be and more. It is a lot morephysical and the amount of timeand effort put into it becomes yourlifestyle.”

What was the biggest differencefrom high school?

“I would say the biggest differ-ence between high school soccerand college soccer is the overall

pace of the game. You need to an-ticipate your next move and youropponent’s moves even more thanin high school.”

Did you feel well preparedwhen you went out for the team?

“When I arrived at our first dayof practice I felt lost and out ofsync. It took some time to transi-tion and get used to the speed ofplay. Also my conditioning needmuch improvement.”

I see you were moved from for-ward to midfielder/defender. Howwas that transition?

“Yes, my first time on the fieldin a game I played outside mid-fielder. I was just told to work hardand run until I couldn't anymore. The transition was brutal but gaveme a better perception of what ittook to play that position and whatplayers had done in that position inorder to get the ball up to the for-wards.”

What was it like to score yourfirst college goal?

“My first college goal was in-credible. It was an overtime gamewinning shot from about 30 yards.

I actually didn’t' get to see it be-cause I was immediately knockedover after I took the shot. It wasnot a realistic first goal but eitherway it felt incredible to have a goaland know that I did something tobenefit the team.”

What advice would you give tokids in the village dreaming aboutplaying college soccer?

“To all those who dream of thechance to play college soccer oreven those who want to play highschool soccer, my advice to themis keep working hard consistentlyand don't let anyone tell you are in-adequate and you won't make it. Ifyou give it your all you will behappy with the outcome.”
