She retires this week from tha- school after thirty-one years of teaching in the public schools of this area. Representatives of the KentCoun- ty and Casnovia Boards of Education, the Casnovia Parent-Teacher Asso- ciation, and fellow teachers, joined with many of her students, both past and present, to wish her well on her retirement and say "thank you" for the many years of service she lias rendered to youth and adults. Many of the students in her classrooms in the past few years are tlie second generauon that has learned under her tutelage. Special guests were her mother, Mrs. Clara Brown of Kent City; Mrs. Clute's mother, Mrs. Carrie Clute of Owosso; and Mrs. John (Dorothy) Wiers of Wyoming, the Clute's only daughter who is a second £rade teacher at Pinery Park School in that city. Mr. George Van Wesep, a past deputy superintendent of die Kent County Board of Education, brought greetings from the county staff and pointed out her outstanding record as an exceptional teacher of remed- ial reading. Mrs. Ivan Emeric, on behalf of tlie community, paid tri- bute to her fine conscientious qual- ities. She recommended that Mrs. Clute be called on as a resource authority in the field of nature and wildlife. , Mr. Vernon Bull, president of the Casnovia Board of Education, ex- pressed appreciation to her length ot service as a dedicated teacher. As a token of esteem and appreciation he presented her with luggage on behalf of the community. A social hour followed the tributes. It was arranged by Mrs. Irving Nyblad, Mrs. Raymond Shaw, Mrs. Ray Loomis. Mrs. Mark Mersey and Mrs. Bull. Mrs. Shaw and Nick Iwaniw presided at the serving table. The faculty members Mr. John Kars. principal, Mrs. Donald Moore, Mrs. Carl Loomis served on hospitality. Numerous highlights of M r s . Clut- e's career and her dedication to serving tlie people about her were brought to light that evening. A most rewarding experience after years of diligent study was receiving her Ba- chelor of Science degree from Wes- tern Michigan University in Kalam- azoo after many long years of dili- gent study in extension courses, special classes and summer school. She related that in the earlier days she had to take the interurban train from Grand Rapids to Kalamazoo to Bi g H Feed DAIRY PEL PROGRAM The ANSWER to Two Big MILKING PARLOR PROBLEMS: 1. Canada Corners, and Casnovia Schools. She menioned tlie fact thatduring tlie de- pression days as many as twenty applicants would be made for one rural school position where the sal- ary had dipped to only $30.00 a month. In addition to working widi young- sters through tlie years, Mrs. Clute has worked for betterment of the teaching profession by serving as president of both the Muskegon and Kent chapters of the Michigan Edu- cation Association. She also was a member of tlie Executive Board of the Kent County Board of Education for two years. Last fall, she was an alternate delegate of Region 9 to the Michigan Education Congress in Grand Rapids and worked widi the department of classroom study. Her interests in youth continues outside tlie classroom as evidenced by the fact that she was a 4-H leader of area boys and girls for twelve years.
