Basic Sentence Patterns 1. Subject + Verb (intransitive)
David sings. The Dog barks. Susan yawned.
2. Subject + Linking Verb + Subject Complement Clark Kent became Superman.
The president looked weary.Jamal is an honest man.
3. Subject + Verb (transitive) + Direct ObjectJohn sings ballads. The player kicks the ball. I need some money.
4. Subject + Verb + Indirect Object + Direct Object My uncle sent me a present. The Governor gave the schools additional money. Dennis bought Ann some fancy flowers.
5. Subject + Verb + Direct Object + Object complement The supervisor found the program faulty.The company elected him the president.
