Electronic diesel control requires a host of information to ensure that all engine functions are always perfectly set. Reliable and high-precision sensors from Bosch provide this information from the powertrain, the exhaust-gas tract and the engine periphery.

Lambda sensor for diesel enginesThe wide-band lambda sensor for diesel engines enables reliable adherence to the strictest exhaust-gas and diagnostics regulations. It measures the residual oxygen content in the exhaust gas. This data helps to ideally adjust the air-fuel mixture via the air system. For monitoring and regulating the latest diesel exhaust-gas treatment systems we are developing both an NOx sensor and a particulate matter sensor. These will permit compliance with the stricter diagnosis guide-lines due to be introduced in the next few years.

Camshaft and crankshaft sensorThe point of time at which the fuel enters the com-bustion chamber is important for the injection pro-cess; so our non-contacting sensors register the exact positions of camshaft and crankshaft. In this way it is possible to defi ne the entire injection process, which consists of several injections, precisely for each cylinder.

Peripheral pressure sensor In the case of pressure-controlled diesel injection systems, the pressure of the aspirated air in the intake manifold is measured. This permits the calculation of air charge in order to determine the amount of fuel needed. Bosch pressure sensors can also be employed to measure the media pressure in oil or fuel lines.

Diff erential-pressure sensorThe diff erential-pressure sensor from Bosch allows the realization of a fuel-saving, requirement-controlled re-generation concept for the particulate fi lter. The sensor measures the exhaust-gas pressure upstream and down- stream of the particulate fi lter. The loading state of the fi lter can be identifi ed from the diff erence in pressure.

Temperature sensorThe temperature sensor measures a variety of diff erent media (e.g. water, fuel, oil) over a broad range of temperatures. The robust sensor is specially designed for automotive applications.
