STATE TIMES NEWS KATHUA: To improve the overall socio-economic condi- tion of the farmers and to espe- cially encourage fruit growers in temperate zone of Kathua district, Department of Horticulture on Tuesday organ- ised 'Walnut Fruit Show' here under Mission for Integrated Development of Horticulture (MIDH). The show was inaugurated by Jt. Director Horticulture Jammu, Tarvinder Singh and Chief Horticulture Officer Kathua, C. L. Sharma. A large number of fruit grow- ers and orchardists from Lohai- Malhar, Machheddi, Badnota, Chalog, Duggan, Bhandar, Bani and other remote villages participated in this District level event. More than 600 entries of Walnut Samples were displayed in the fruit show. Highlighting the benefits of Walnut cultivation, the farmers were impressed upon to follow the modern and scientific prac- tices for increasing production. Participants were asked to avail subsidies/ incentives under MIDH, Rashtriya Krishi Vikas Yojana, PMKSY, SMAM, PMDP and Capex budget schemes. Joint Director, Horticulture informed that Walnut cultiva- tion still occupies prominence in Jammu division. Farmers evinced keen interest in the fruit samples exhibited in the show. To encourage them, the department also gave away prizes to the distinguished farmers and consolation prizes among the participating farm- ers under different categories. Chief Horticulture Officer Kathua informed that Walnut contributes significantly in the annual production of fruit crops in Kathua District. He asked the farmers to take advantage of various schemes being launched by the govern- ment for their welfare. Farmers were educated to fully avail the potential of culti- vating fruit crops such as Apple, Peach, Pear, Plum and Apricot in hilly areas of Kathua District. Dr. Vishal Mahajan and Dr. Brijesh Sharma, scien- tists of KVK Kathua partici- pated as resource persons in the event and interacted with the farmers to provide remedial measures of several problems raised by Walnut growers. Army provides water facility for Dara Dullian STATE TIMES NEWS POONCH: Army constructed a water supply scheme with storage tank for the villagers of Dara Dullian in Poonch District to provide essential amenity for the needy vil- lagers who have been suffer- ing due to lack of water resources in this border vil- lage. The water supply scheme with a storage tank of 25,000 liters capacity has been estab- lished to conserve water in the summer months when water scarcity is at the highest and it will be a boon for the vil- lagers. The DC visited examination centres established at Government Higher Secondary School, Gandhri and Government High School, Kanga. He reviewed the security and other arrangements put in place by the concerned authorities for conduct of examination. He directed the exam superintendents to ensure adequate arrangements for smooth conduct of examinations. STATE TIMES NEWS KATHUA: To improve theoverall socio-economic condi-tion of the farmers and to espe-cially encourage fruit growersin temperate zone of Kathuadistrict, Department ofHorticulture on Tuesday organ-ised 'Walnut Fruit Show' hereunder Mission for IntegratedDevelopment of Horticulture(MIDH).

The show was inaugurated byJt. Director HorticultureJammu, Tarvinder Singh andChief Horticulture OfficerKathua, C. L. Sharma.

A large number of fruit grow-ers and orchardists from Lohai-Malhar, Machheddi, Badnota,Chalog, Duggan, Bhandar,Bani and other remote villagesparticipated in this Districtlevel event. More than 600entries of Walnut Samples weredisplayed in the fruit show.

Highlighting the benefits ofWalnut cultivation, the farmerswere impressed upon to followthe modern and scientific prac-tices for increasing production.

Participants were asked to availsubsidies/ incentives underMIDH, Rashtriya Krishi VikasYojana, PMKSY, SMAM,PMDP and Capex budgetschemes.

Joint Director, Horticultureinformed that Walnut cultiva-tion still occupies prominence inJammu division. Farmersevinced keen interest in thefruit samples exhibited in theshow.

To encourage them, thedepartment also gave awayprizes to the distinguishedfarmers and consolation prizes

among the participating farm-ers under different categories.

Chief Horticulture OfficerKathua informed that Walnutcontributes significantly in theannual production of fruitcrops in Kathua District. Heasked the farmers to takeadvantage of various schemesbeing launched by the govern-ment for their welfare.

Farmers were educated tofully avail the potential of culti-vating fruit crops such asApple, Peach, Pear, Plum andApricot in hilly areas of KathuaDistrict. Dr. Vishal Mahajan

Army provides waterfacility for Dara Dullian

STATE TIMES NEWS POONCH: Army constructeda water supply scheme withstorage tank for the villagersof Dara Dullian in PoonchDistrict to provide essentialamenity for the needy vil-lagers who have been suffer-ing due to lack of waterresources in this border vil-lage.

The water supply schemewith a storage tank of 25,000liters capacity has been estab-lished to conserve water in thesummer months when waterscarcity is at the highest andit will be a boon for the vil-lagers. Around 100 villagerswill be benefited by this watersupply scheme.

Mushtaq Hussain,Sarpanch, Dara Dullian inau-gurated the scheme in pres-ence of dignitaries from civiladministration and army.
