Seniors’ activities October – December 2018 With a jam-packed program of events and activities for local seniors, there are now more ways than ever to keep fit, be social, explore, learn or just be entertained in the City of Gosnells. All of these activities are open to seniors who live in the City of Gosnells and because places are limited, early registration is essential. Bookings are taken from 8am on the day of registration by calling 9391 6038 – please check dates carefully. Payments are due one week before the event, to allow for wait-listed people to be allocated places, if available. Seniors Community Consultation Session Friday 5 October Lyal Richardson Hall – The Agonis 10.30am – 1pm Bookings now open Through the City’s Senior Services, each program and activity offered aims to keep seniors healthy, connected and active within the community for as long as possible. A moderate level of fitness is essential. A light morning tea will be provided and lunch can be purchased at participants’ own expense. Seniors’ activities October – December 2018

Whether you are looking to be more socially connected or want to get involved in more physical pursuits, this Mental Health Week event will provide a wealth of information about what is on offer in your area. Morning tea is available for a small fee.

Tai Chi for Health – 10 week courseThursdays – commencing 11 October Lyal Richardson Hall – The Agonis 9.30am – 10.30am Bookings taken from Monday 24 September

Described as ‘meditation in motion’, Tai Chi offers a range of physical and mental health benefits. This ancient form of martial art improves strength and balance, which is important for fall prevention as people age. The $75 course fee can be paid in advance or instalments of $7.50 per session.

Gosnells Positive Ageing Network – October SessionFriday 19 October Lyal Richardson Hall – The Agonis 10am – 11.30am Bookings now open Topic – Foot health

Associate Professor Michael Wilding will provide information on foot health and discuss common health problems associated with your feet. A light morning tea will be provided.

Heritage Tour of New NorciaMonday 22 October Depart Addie Mills Centre 8am – 5.30pm Bookings taken from Monday 8 October

Take in a tour of beautiful New Norcia, Australia’s only monastic town, founded by Spanish Benedictine Monks in 1847. Following a guided tour visiting heritage buildings there will be an opportunity to visit the museum, art gallery and gift shop. Morning tea can be purchased at participants’ own expense. Packing a picnic lunch is recomended as there are few outlets to purchase lunch in the area.

Seniors Week – Capturing your life’s storyTuesday 13 November Lyal Richardson Hall – The Agonis 9.30am – 11am Bookings taken from Monday 29 October

Learn how to capture your story for future generations and develop the skills to help you start writing your own family history. This one hour presentation will cover how to get started, the importance of social history, keeping your story interesting, story structure and technical aspects.

Seniors Week – Community BBQWednesday 14 November Addie Mills Centre 5pm – 8pm Bookings taken from Wednesday 31 October

This year’s annual BBQ promises to be even more popular with the addition of the Mucky Duck Bush Band performing throughout the evening. Come along, meet new people or mingle with old friends while enjoying a delicious meal listening to some great Australian folk music.

This interactive and engaging workshop will provide an opportunity for participants to have a free hearing check and discuss concerns they may have in regards to their hearing.
